It’s unusual for most developers to spend millions of their own dollars to buy a unit in their own building. But Jon Cronin just did.

While demand in the commercial and industrial (C&I) lending market has been relatively slow, the recent interest rate cuts could stimulate renewed activity. Our Chief Commercial Banking Officer, Ian Brandon, spoke with Samuel Minton about how C&I lending continues to offer significant opportunities for deeper client engagement and long-term partnerships. As rates decrease, businesses may seek more strategic financing, positioning C&I as a crucial growth area for both lenders and borrowers. At issue: Does the attorney general’s office have the ability to use the courts to force Milton’s compliance with the MBTA Communities multifamily zoning law? And does the court have to invalidate the current guidelines implementing the law if it finds they don't pass constitutional muster?

Milton's MBTA Communities lawsuit went before the state Supreme Judicial Court this morning. But the Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research's Andrew Mikula argues that regardless of how the court rules, it won't overturn towns' obligation to comply with the law.

Who knew 5,000 square feet of concrete could be so exciting? (📸: State House News Service) So exciting that it brought Gov. Maura Healey, Mayor Michelle Wu, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and Congressman Richard Neal together for the ribbon-cutting of WS Development's 707,000-square-foot One Boston Wharf office tower in the Seaport District on Tuesday. The floor of the tower's "Paseo" public promenade was an early commercial use of a new type of concrete from Somerville-based Sublime Systems that creates substantially less carbon pollution than traditional concrete. Debate is brewing in Boston City Hall over what Mayor Michelle Wu's proposed $100 million "Housing Accelerator Fund" should be used for. District 4 Councilor Brian Worrell is pushing for condo projects to be at the front of the line, even though they're only 10 percent of the city's development pipeline. "In an apartment project you can get 70 percent [debt financing]. On a condo, you’ll be in the 50 percent range, which means you need to find more expensive capital to complete the stack,” Jim Grossmann said.
