Dr. Eric Reiman, executive director of Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and CEO of Banner Research, recently gave a very inspiring interview on KJZZ, Phoenix’s NPR affiliate, to discuss an ongoing study in which he and colleagues have been working with a large extended family in Colombia. They’ve discovered a rare genetic mutation in this family that makes it almost certain that they’ll develop early-onset Alzheimer’s. Dr. Reiman discusses how this study has changed the lives of everyone involved and ushered in a new era of research, bringing new knowledge and hope for preventing and treating Alzheimer’s. Roughly 7 million Americans aged 65 and older have Alzheimer’s disease, according to the National Institutes of Health. While scientists are working on ways to treat it, they’re also gaining headway toward trying to prevent people from developing Alzheimer’s in the first place. https://bit.ly/4dzV1Pb #neurology #alzheimersdisease #research
