ACCOUNTABILITY IN ACTION: Baptist Physician Partners (BPP), Baptist Health’s clinically integrated hospital-physician network, was recently named to Becker's Hospital Review list of “44 Accountable Care Organization’s (ACOs) to Know” for 2024! The network, which provides high-quality, value-based care to communities throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, is one of just two ACOs in Florida to make the prestigious list for the past two years. “Success in value-based care is paramount to our entire organization, and this recognition is an honor and testament to the work of our ACO and clinically integrated network,” said Mary Leen, DNP, ARNP, vice president of clinical operations for BPP, who leads care coordination teams at Baptist Health. “Fostering collaboration among health care providers ensures patients receive comprehensive and seamless care whatever their health care need. It also empowers patients to confidently navigate their health care journey, assured that their providers are collaborating for their best interests.” Accountable Care Organizations are groups of clinicians, hospitals and other health care providers who work together to provide highly coordinated, patient-centered care. Care coordination teams help to ensure continuity of care throughout a patient’s health care journey. This collaborative approach promotes value-based care, which emphasizes quality over quantity in the delivery of health care. In addition, many ACOs such as BPP also focus on improving provider well-being and reducing burnout by addressing the needs of the care team as well as the patient and family. Through the use of evidence-based practices, standards and analytics, ACOs have been proven to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions, improve chronic disease management, and help create healthier communities. “We are proud to be recognized for the strength and quality of our clinically integrated network,” said Timothy G. Groover, MD, MBA, CPE, FACHE, senior vice president and chief medical officer of Baptist Health. “Quality over quantity is the right choice for us and our patients. Efficiently providing high-quality care results in better patient outcomes and allows us to reinvest in technology and services, maintaining the availability of health care services for the community.” READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/enKchSgP #BaptistProud

Congratulations to Lanier Drew, JD, on her induction into the Trinity College-Hartford Sports Hall of Fame this past weekend in Hartford, Connecticut! 🌟 As Deputy General Counsel of Baptist Health, Lanier has been a valuable member of our team for 27 years, providing leadership and legal guidance that strengthens our commitment to quality care. Before earning her law degree at the University of Florida, Lanier’s journey began at Trinity College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Classics and competed in five different sports during her time there. She captained the women’s inaugural swimming team for three years and was the Bantam’s first-ever female cross country runner. Drew also competed in women’s basketball and broke the school record for the mile run in women’s track and field days after finishing the Boston Marathon. We’re #BaptistProud to see Lanier recognized for her dedication and accomplishments, both on and off the field. Congratulations, Lanier! 🏆✨

Happy #Filipino American History Month! We sat down with Dr. Jose Tamayo, a family physician with Baptist Primary Care, to learn a little more about his heritage and what this month means to him. Q. Tell us a little about yourself. A. I grew up in Biñan Laguna, a small municipality outside of Manila. My mother, a cardiologist, nudged me toward a career in medicine at an early age. Now, most of my free time is spent with my family. My wife and I have five daughters, with the oldest in college and the youngest in first grade. On weekends, you'll usually find us at the beach or dining at a local restaurant. Occasionally, I like to catch the local car show, Caffeine and Octane, with friends. We also try to travel as a family whenever we can. This year, we crossed off a "bucket-list" trip by attending Easter Sunday Mass at the Vatican. Even though I'm thousands of miles away from my childhood home, Jacksonville Beach has become our new home, and it's been a pleasure and a privilege to serve the Jacksonville community for the past 15 years. Q. Is there anyone in your life that you especially admired or looked up to growing up? A. I was named after my grandfather, Jose Tamayo, an obstetrician married to a pediatrician. He was an amazing and influential part of my formative years. He even founded a College of Nursing in Manila, which has grown to become the 7th largest university in the Philippines. He impressed upon me the sacred calling of being a medical practitioner, and his legacy continues to inspire me in my own career. Q. How long have you been with Baptist Health and what do you do in your current role? How did you come to work at Baptist? I've been affiliated with Baptist Health for 15 years. My journey began when Dr. Mark Messinese, then Chief of Staff at Baptist Medical Center Beaches, took a chance on me as a fresh residency graduate. Together, we practiced both hospital and outpatient primary care out of the old "Church Clinic" on 16th Avenue. Five years ago, we moved into our current office in Building A at Baptist Beaches. Q. What does Filipino Heritage Month mean to you? A. I'm very proud of my Filipino heritage, especially our legacy in caring. Filipinos have a long history of a symbiotic relationship with the United States, with nurses migrating en masse during every major nursing shortage since World War II. My mother was one of those nurses in the 1970s. While Filipino nurses help alleviate shortages here in the USA, they are also able to better the lives of the family members they leave behind in the Philippines. We also have a proud Navy connection, with countless Filipinos enlisting since 1947. Here in Jacksonville, we have the largest Filipino population in Florida, which makes me especially proud to be part of this community. We're proud to be Filipino American! #BaptistProud

MEET DR. MAHINRAD! With over 20 years of experience, Shiva Mahinrad, MD, is a board-certified internist at Baptist Primary Care in Green Cove Springs. Dr. Mahinrad was born and raised in Iran and has lived on three continents before moving to the U.S. in 2000. She has been in Florida since 2005 and has called Jacksonville home since 2015, enjoying the climate and all that nature has to offer. Both of her parents were teachers, and at 16, she was accepted into a prestigious university to become an engineer, but life had other plans. When the Iran-Iraq war began, Dr. Mahinrad returned home and volunteered as a CNA in a war front hospital after just two weeks of training. It was during this time that she found her true passion—medicine. Dr. Mahinrad has fond memories from her time working in the ER and as a hospitalist, particularly when patients and families entrusted her with their loved ones' health. For her, there is no greater reward than that. Her ultimate job satisfaction comes from teaming up with her patients to help them achieve their goals of living a healthier life. In her free time, Dr. Mahinrad enjoys cooking, swimming, yoga, and traveling. Outside of work, she takes care of farm animals, enjoys gardening, and stays connected with family and friends through social media. For fun, she loves music and dancing. We’re grateful to have Dr. Mahinrad's experience on our team! 💙 To learn more or schedule an appointment, visit https://lnkd.in/dSixsBzj.

Congratulations to Monique Jefferson, ASN, RN, on her recent DAISY Award! Monique is an assistant nurse manager at Heart Hospital 4 North. More from her nomination below: "Being a professional nurse means the patients in your care must be able to trust you, it means being up to date with best practice, it means treating your patients and colleagues with dignity, kindness, respect and compassion. Monique embodies these things and more. She seeks to defend the dignity of those in her care, advocates and strives to protect the rights of her patients. Monique goes above and beyond for her coworkers as well. Monique is always the first one to volunteer to jump in if needed. On our crazy busy days, Monique makes it better by always being a listening ear, volunteering to jump in or lend a helping hand, giving us a snack or encouraging us that it is just a rough few minutes, it will pass, and we will get through this. She fosters a sense of togetherness, you feel as if we are all in this together. Her giving spirit makes me want to be a better person. I have watched Monique as a preceptor, she is always right there every step of the way encouraging everyone to seek more than just why. She wants the who, what, when and where also. She is always ready to offer an answer after encouraging you to work it out yourself. She never makes you feel less than, or dumb for asking. When you are working on a skill you have not performed before she is your cheerleader. Monique makes our lives, as well as the patients' lives, better by doing simple little things. She is diligent about making sure the unit is clean and presentable. She will stop if she sees something on the floor and grab a mop if she needs to. I never hear her complain. We should all strive to be like Monique. I hope she knows how appreciated, admired, loved and fabulous she truly is." Thank you, Monique, for your dedication and for inspiring us all to be better every day. We are #BaptistProud to have you as a leader on our team – congratulations again on this well-deserved recognition! 💙
