Safety Zone: Toolbox Talk for Fall Protection According to OSHA, fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be the leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 395 of the 1069 construction fatalities recorded in 2022. Most falls involve three important elements: obstacles, heights, and traction. People fall off ladders or down stairways; they trip over stools and electrical cords, and they slip on water, or oil spills. There are many factors that can cause or contribute to a fall occurring in the workplace. Unsafe conditions paired with unsafe actions of workers while working at heights is a recipe for disaster. Do not put yourself or another worker in a position where an injury from a fall can occur. Barletta Safety Site Officers will continue to deliver this Toolbox Talk to project locations throughout the week.

Spotted! 🐢 During our work on the Barletta 495/90 interchange project, we've come across some incredible wetland wildlife—especially the turtles! These little residents remind us of the importance of protecting the ecosystems around our construction sites. We’re committed to ensuring that their habitats are safeguarded as we continue our work. Nature and progress can go hand in hand! 🌿🌍 #WildlifeWednesday #EcoFriendlyConstruction #ProtectOurTurtles

Barletta - in collaboration with MassDOT and our 495/90 Joint Venture partners VHB, O&G Industries, Inc. and Aetna Bridge Company – was proud to again host The Moles Inc. Students Day. Over 200 students and faculty from the US Coast Guard Academy and 15 local colleges and universities were able to see first-hand the complex and intricate active construction work at the 495/90 Interchange Project. Students received pre-tour presentations from MassDOT Administrator Jonathan Gulliver, Moles President John McNamara (of Massachusetts firm AA Will Corp.), Moles Education Committee Chair Terry Flynn, Vin Barletta, and Donald Cooke of VHB. After the opening presentations, attendees boarded buses and traveled to eight (8) different stations throughout the active work zone including a stop for a tour of MassDOT's Materials & Research Lab. Students were escorted to each site with guides from Barletta, VHB, MassDOT and Moles member volunteers who were all eager to share their valuable knowledge and enthusiasm for the project and the industry. The day concluded with boxed lunches and an opportunity for students to discuss career and internship opportunities with the Moles member firms on hand. It was a great networking opportunity for students and the firms. We thank everyone involved in making the day such a success, and we especially thank the students and schools for attending. Safety Zone: Toolbox Talk for Mental Health Suicides and drug overdoses occur in the construction industry at a rate 4x higher than the national average, and 83% of construction workers have struggled with mental health issues at some time. A career in the construction industry can be very rewarding, but it is critical to recognize if you or a co-worker is feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Most people may know someone who struggles with mental health issues. There is no true “right-way” to handle this but one of the best places to start is by simply talking to them. Ask for help. Ask a friend and co-worker if they need help. Barletta is committed to providing a supportive environment for all of our workers. Our open communication policy encourages employees to ask for help and to raise concerns. Barletta Safety Site Officers will be delivering this Toolbox Talk to project locations throughout the week. #ConstructionSafety #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters
