At Barrier Breakers®, Inc., building community is at the core of our mission. This month, I was thrilled to host in-person info sessions in partnership with St. John's University School of Law for students in the New York area and partner with the New York County District Attorney's Office to host an in-person information session with their attorneys. We loved reconnecting with our incredible students and alumni and happy hour events in the City as well. Seeing our students form meaningful connections and support each other through the law school application process was a reminder of how powerful community can be. I also had the honor of gathering with my stellar team of advisors—all current and former deans and directors of admissions—for our first in-person dinner in NYC. These brilliant minds are the backbone of our work, and I couldn’t be more excited about the future we’re building together! A major shout out to Demi Pirrone at the New York County District Attorney's Office for helping coordinate a wonderful event for our Barrier Breakers students, Denée Page and Junghwa Reichert, M.A. at St. John's for hosting us so brilliantly, Paul Patterson, PhD for coordinating the details for our organization, and Dr. Nadia Castriota, Arturo Hodgson, M.S., Shani Butts, Glenn E. Bell, M. Ed., and Gabriela Amador for being wonderful advisors! #BarrierBreakers #CommunityBuilding #LawSchoolAdmissions #NYC #FirstGenSuccess #Leadership #Teamwork

At Barrier Breakers®, Inc., we support students beyond the doors of higher education and law school admission centers. The professional development of our students is also a priority, and internships can be a foundational gateway to future opportunities! ✈ As the season of #summerinternships slowly draws to a close, non-profit organizations and student interns have an invaluable opportunity to reflect. 🍂 🤔 Students should take a moment to review their accomplishments, using them to craft successful resume bullet points and scenarios for future interviews. ✍🏽 Non-profit organizations, which often operate with limited resources, should also reflect on their internship program strategies to ensure they align with both business goals and students' career aspirations. 🥅 Creating a feedback loop between organizations and students is crucial here. 🗣 🔁 Learn more about striking a mutually beneficial balance in non-profit internship programs from the Forbes Non-Profit Council, featuring contributions from our founder, Sydney Montgomery, below! https://lnkd.in/gvK5qhv7, Inc.,

  • At Barrier Breakers®, Inc., we are kicking off this summer Tuesday announcing a recent #win. 🏆🔥 **Cue drumroll** 🥁 We are thrilled to announce that our non-profit organization has been selected as recipient of the Mercer County Community Grant for $10,000! 🎊 This is significant accomplishment, both in Barrier Breaker's history and in the journey towards equity in higher education. 💪🏾 We will be using the funds for our Barrier Breakers Scholars Program, which provides our higher education and law school admissions services pro-bono to marginalized students who have historically lacked resources! 📚💻 Specifically, this year we are working by providing pro bono college counseling to the girls at HomeWorks Trenton, co-founded by Natalie Tung. Homeworks Trenton is a supplemental after-school residential program that provides academic and identity based leadership to marginalized girls. Their groundbreaking work has increased accessibility to the boarding school experience to its students, thereby increasing preparedness for their higher education journeys. 📈 Learn more about the incredible work of HomeWorks Trenton here: https://lnkd.in/eUEF7yYB! Stay tuned in the coming months as we share updates about our partners and the ongoing impact of the Barrier Breakers Scholars Program! ✨ If you would like to support first-generation and marginalized students, please consider donating here: https://lnkd.in/ezdVUNay.
