Bay Tree Design, inc. is a landscape architecture and planning firm in Berkeley, California. Excited to see our hard work for San Francisco Unified School District with CAW Architects, Inc. being implemented and brightening up schoolyards across the District while providing outdoor learning and play opportunities.
SPEC is thrilled to enhance SFUSD’s outdoor spaces through the district’s Bond Program! 🌿 In partnership with Bay Tree Design, we’re bringing innovative site furnishings from mmcité and Out-sider to create vibrant areas for learning, play, and relaxation. With 126 schools including several middle schools in the district, SFUSD is implementing improvements in multiple phases. With Phase 6 in progress, students are enjoying Rautster tables, Lava benches, Plateau picnic tables, and more! These upgrades support well-being, creativity, and a love for the outdoors. At Bay Tree Design we are thrilled to see that the State of California supports making daily spaces better for our children's development and emotional well-being AND better for climate systems.
We are very excited to share that today Governor Newsom signed into law SB 1091. This legislation will reduce a significant barrier to school-ground greening, and make it possible for many public schools, specifically ones with less resources, to implement school ground greening projects. The bill was authored by Senator Caroline Menjivar, cosponsored by Green Schoolyards America and Trust for Public Land, and supported by a wide coalition of health, environmental, and public education advocates. This is a great example of how we are working together to shift systems so that they support schoolyard greening and help give every child access to a living schoolyard and its benefits!
