🌿 Exciting News from Holly Beach Farm! 🌿 Marsh growth at our Holly Beach Farm site has really taken off this year! 🌱 We observed loads of both Spartina patens and Spartina alterniflora during our latest site visit. Originally owned by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, this 293-acre waterfront property was donated to Maryland Department of Natural Resources in March 2024. 🏞️ Funding was provided by the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works Watershed Protection and Restoration Program for Full Delivery of Turnkey Water Quality Improvements. We are thrilled to see such positive progress in our efforts to restore and enhance the natural resilience of this beautiful site! 💧🦆 #EnvironmentalRestoration #MarshGrowth #HollyBeachFarm #Spartina #ChesapeakeBay #BayLand #AnneArundelCounty #WaterQuality #NaturalResilience

The Northeast Park Stream Restoration and Stormwater Management Retrofit project site is looking spectacular! We love seeing our projects flourish. This City of Rockville initiative enhances an unnamed tributary to Rock Creek, restores the pond’s ability to collect stormwater runoff, traps sediment, and reduces pollution to local waterways that flow into the Chesapeake Bay. #StreamRestoration #StormwaterManagement #EnvironmentalProtection #RockCreek #ChesapeakeBay #SustainableProjects #WaterQuality #HabitatRestoration

Recently BayLand staff performed closeout monitoring of our Solley Cove Park and Fort Smallwood Park Living Shorelines. We are happy to report that not only do we see thriving marsh habitat, but these sites were teeming with previously unseen wildlife and aquatic habitat. Submerged Aquatic Vegetation has populated behind the breakwaters at both sites and juvenile fish were observed enjoying the protected waters. We even spotted a horseshoe crab in the sandy embayments of the Solley Cove site!! ❤️ Mayo Beach
The final stop on the 2024 Director’s Tour was at Mayo Beach, where we performed a variety of shoreline restoration work, including installing new riprap, putting in more sand for the beach, marsh plantings and moving a path. We also installed ADA-compliant parking. #NPWW #DPWandYOU
