About us
Our Mission: To serve as the focal point for Art and Culture in the Bayview Hunters Point Community in San Francisco by providing accessible, diverse, and high - quality arts education, cultural programs and community events in a safe environment. The Bayview Opera House is the only theatre in San Francisco that survived the 1906 earthquake and is a nationally registered landmark. We provide preschool, after school and summer arts education to the underserved children of Bayview with our flagship Dare to Dream ARTS program. Our venue presents many performing arts as well as community events annually. State-of-the-art technical equipment, both for our indoor and outdoor stage, is complemented by expert theatre technicians. Rental inquiries are welcome. The Bayview Opera House is located in Bayview Hunters Point, one of the five poorest communities in the Bay Area. High unemployment, low education levels, severe health challenges and violence on the streets make this neighborhood a very challenging environment to grow up in. Several old and decrepit public housing projects are home to most of the 500 children attending our arts education programs annually. The Bayview Opera House has for generations been a place for people to experience the arts in a neighborhood setting.
