For our Alumni highlight, meet Manuel (right) and his Big Brother Mark (left)! “‘It takes a village to raise a child, and I’m here to tell you that the phrase is true. My big brother, Dr. Mark Smith-Soto and BBBS as an organization were absolutely instrumental parts of the village that raised me from a young boy who had lost his father at 6, through my ‘troubling’ adolescent and teenage years, and all the way into the buddingly successful man I’ve become today. After my father passed, there was a void in my village, but Mark, and through him, BBBS, stepped up and into that void. I’ll forever be grateful to the organization for introducing me to my big brother Mark and to him for being such a loving, dedicated, and genuine member of my blessed village!” If you are a past Little or Big and would like to become a member of our Alumni League, follow this link: https://lnkd.in/eYv9ssDK

Meet our first Alumni League Member, April Thompson! April is an Alumni Little Sister and here are a few words from her about her Big Brothers Big Sisters experience! "What a blessing to reconnect with a program that helped empower me to be great! I made power moves and took steps toward greatness for my future because of the program, my big sisters and activities we did. I stand by them and with them that their program works! I now serve as a mentor, professor, and owner of a nonprofit- where I can take these same principles they used to help me be great and apply in my own professional career. Meeting Holly and Amy has been a full circle moment that has pushed me to elevate even more to ensure students like me reach their full potential in life no matter what!" We kicked off August with our Annual Back to School Picnic! BIG thanks to our sponsors: TempurSealy, Truliant Federal Credit Union, Vanessa Gomez, ImageFIRST Healthcare Laundry Specialists, and BNI- Kernersville. With your support and the help of our volunteers we gave away over 100 backpacks to children who might not otherwise have one to start the school year off with. Thank you!

We are so grateful to the United Way of Greater High Point for their support of Big Brothers Big Sisters and to the greater High Point community for giving through United Way. Some of our Littles helped hand out programs at the UWGHP annual luncheon yesterday. #liveunited #ittakeslittletobebig
