Earlier this month, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced an additional $430 million to upgrade nearly 300 hydroelectric facilities across the country. This infusion of federal funds is already being felt in communities across America, as local facilities near you are now planning much-needed improvements -- like the Scanlon and Blanchard dams in Minnesota, profiled in the article below. NHA worked hard to help secure these federal investments because we know that #hydro is a #cleanenergy solution that can help countless communities achieve their reliability, #sustainability and #infrastructure goals -- but only when this key resource is given the attention it deserves. We still have a lot of work to do on that front, but this latest investment shows our advocacy is working. Let's keep it up! Read more: https://lnkd.in/e9xffgXb

Today, the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) joins the nation in celebrating the tenth annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day. National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day is observed on October 8 (10.08), in recognition of the atomic weight of hydrogen - 1.008. Hydrogen is essential for decarbonization and provides fuel, feedstock, and power to wide-ranging sectors both in the U.S and across the globe. In recent years this celebration has even grown international attention with wide-ranging support seen around the world including Canada, Australia, Europe, and more. "FCHEA, all of our members, and the collective industry work hard to make every day National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day," said Frank Wolak, President and CEO of FCHEA. "Today marks our tenth annual celebration, and since FCHEA created the day and it was first recognized in 2014, the United States' hydrogen sector has grown tremendously. We have moved out of the lab and into the marketplace as a vital industry capable of leveraging the abundant resources and robust industrial sector of our country to spur energy innovation, decarbonization, and economic growth." Asset-intensive industries – such as natural gas and chemicals – are complex and have essential requirements for safety, reliability, and environmental stewardship. This necessitates a style of artificial intelligence (#AI) – known as Industrial AI – through which industrial and scientific domain expertise combine to provide guardrails that ensure accuracy, reliability, and safety. BCSE member Aspen Technology combines AI with domain expertise, including engineering first-principles, to deliver significant benefits in modeling, optimization, decision support, predictive maintenance, and more. A leading industrial software partner, AspenTech is embedding AI capabilities into its software to unlock new use cases and more value for customers. AspenTech’s customers are seizing these opportunities and utilizing Industrial AI to accelerate clean energy deployment in more ways than one. Already, AspenTech has identified opportunities for AI to improve efficiency, flexibility, reliability, and optimization across the #energy system. During #ClimateWeekNYC and National Clean Energy Week, BCSE is spotlighting members and partners that are leading the clean energy transition. BCSE President Lisa Jacobson took the stage yesterday at National Clean Energy Week in Washington, DC to lead an armchair discussion on tax and #climate policy with Seth Hanlon, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Deputy Assistant Secretary Hanlon discussed the progress of implementation of the #InflationReductionAct, which is spurring >$120 billion in private investment in #cleanenergy and creating >300,000 new jobs. Nevertheless, he stressed that there's still "so much work to do" to "get the word out" about the IRA and ensure companies and state and local governments know how to take advantage of these impactful tax credits. Thank you to Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) for this opportunity to participate in #NCEW24!

As the United States works to reduce emissions from the transportation sector, the time is ripe for innovations in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). In particular, new innovations have arisen when pairing #SAF production with carbon capture and storage (CCS), which saw growth in 2023. Last year, new investments in #CCS totaled $2.8 billion, up 68% from 2022. This month, #BCSEMember Gevo, Inc. announced plans to acquire Red Trail Energy assets in North Dakota, including operating low-carbon ethanol production and carbon sequestration facilities. This development will expand Gevo’s platform for SAF, hydrocarbons, and chemicals. Plus, the acquisition underscores Gevo’s dedication to providing innovative solutions that address the challenges of global #climatechange, US #energy security, and rural community development. “Carbon abatement for fuels and chemicals is core to our business,” said Gevo CEO Patrick Gruber. “This acquisition enables immediate market development for sequestered carbon. We expect our ownership of these assets to generate significant near-term and long-term value for our shareholders, while adding new jobs and economic growth to rural communities in the region.” During #ClimateWeekNYC and National Clean Energy Week, BCSE is spotlighting members and partners that are leading the clean energy transition. US #cleanenergy jobs surged to 3.46 million in 2023, propelled by southern states and first full year of #InflationReductionAct investments. That's the latest from E2's 9th Annual Clean Jobs America report, which breaks the jobs data down to national, state, county, and metro levels. The data shows that the #cleanenergy transition is hard-wired into the US economy, as: - Clean energy companies added almost 150,000 jobs in 2023, growing more than 3x faster than overall US employment. - #EnergyEfficiency continued to lead the clean economy in total jobs. - Jobs in #manufacturing and other services (including vehicle maintenance and repair) accounted for nearly 60% of all new clean energy jobs. BCSE closed the first day of #ClimateWeekNYC with a packed event discussing #cleanenergy deployment! Hosted in the offices of Norton Rose Fulbright, BCSE and Hydro Québec brought together public and private sector leaders to speak on the progress of #energy projects and #infrastructure being built out in New York state and beyond. What is needed next to speed up the clean energy transition at the ground level? Panelists agreed: community engagement - from working with unions and tribal governments, to building partnerships with community organizations - is key to reducing roadblocks and building up local economies. Plus, federal #permitting and siting reforms are critical to getting new clean energy projects up and running in a timely manner. Thanks to all who joined us on September 23, and special kudos to our featured speakers for sharing their insights: - Steve Capanna, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) - Abby Hopper, Solar Energy Industries Association - Peter Rose, Hydro Quebec - Serge Abergel, Hydro Quebec - Brian Gemmell, National Grid - Patricia Lombardi, P.E., New York Power Authority - Nate Teti, Equinor - Christopher Benjamin, Pacific Gas and Electric Company - Utopia Hill, Reactivate - Jeannie Salo, Schneider Electric Follow along the rest of this week as BCSE shines a light on our members and partners that are leading the clean energy transition.
