BDC Laboratories' Vice President of Technology, Brian Choules, Ph.D. contributed to the new book "Measuring the Physiologic Use Conditions of Medical Devices." Brian drew from his 25+ years of experience in the development of physiologic use conditions in medical devices to collaborate in writing the chapter "Implanted Device Motion and Migration." The section of the book is all about the concept of device motion. Device migration can occur due to conditions such as loss of fixation, incorrect sizing in the case of stents and heart valves, flow and pressure effects, tissue growth, patient motion, delivery system retrieval errors, or component failure. He shared his expertise working with vascular grafts, stent grafts, drug-eluting stents, vena cava filters, heart valves, occluders and other vascular devices. Brian has been involved with ASTM, AAMI, ASME and ISO standards development for more than two decades and currently serve as the ASTM F04.30 Cardiovascular Standards subcommittee chairman.
