Today is #WorldWaterDay! Last year, across our portfolio, we used 60 gallons of water per day per bedroom, hitting our most aggressive annual target for water conservation. At Mill House Apartments in Greenfield, MA, we completed a three-year, $2 million project that included installing high-efficiency toilets in 85 apartments. These upgrades saved 1.23 million gallons of water in just 16 months, helping to lower utility costs for residents and conserve this essential resource.

We are moving forward with plans to transform the historic PACT Building at 120 Cecil Way in Pittsburgh, PA, into more than 95 affordable apartments, providing much-needed housing for families and single parents pursuing their education through a partnership with Pittsburgh Scholar House. Across our portfolio, Beacon is proud to support mentoring programs that empower and inspire young people. At The Pines in Brockton, MA, the Choices4Teens Mentoring Group is making a real impact. Twice a week, 20 teens meet with dedicated college student mentors from Bridgewater State University, Massasoit Community College, and Stonehill College. Together, they discuss leadership, personal growth, and making positive life choices. We’re grateful to all the mentors who volunteer their time and expertise to strengthen our communities and support our residents.

Today I was thrilled to attend the press event in City of New Haven with Mayor Justin Elicker and Senator Martin Looney to celebrate with our partner, United Way of Greater New Haven, our CIF award from Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development for our project at State & Chapel. This $2M will help fund our 76 apartments in downtown across from the State Street Train Station. In this historic adaptive reuse and new construction development, 60 apartments are affordable with 46 deeply affordable, along with 20,000 SF of commercial space. Thanks also to Connecticut Housing Finance Authority and Connecticut Department of Housing who have made getting this far possible!

We are celebrating Women's History Month by highlighting female leaders in our industry. Today, we are recognizing Maria Torres-Springer, Former First Deputy Mayor of New York City. Until February, Torres-Springer served as New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development, and Workforce. She spearheaded the administration’s efforts to strengthen and diversify the city’s economy, working toward the goal of creating 500,000 new homes for New Yorkers by 2032. Previously, Torres-Springer led the implementation of Housing New York to create and preserve 300,000 affordable homes and supported the financing of 60,000 affordable homes.
