Providing employment programs for refugees through the creation of handmade gourmet granola.

About us

Beautiful Day began after a late night, a few beers, and a couple of good friends asking a question: what might help newly-arrived international refugees start rebuilding their lives in Providence? The answer: artisanal granola, of course! Let’s face it, granola is just about the perfect food - wholesome, natural, mysterious, deep. And when it tastes this good, why shouldn’t it help a few people along the way? Using mostly organic ingredients, our granola is locally made in the Amos House kitchen with the help of refugees from Burundi, Myanmar, and Iraq. We sell our granola wholesale, retail (in stores and via our website), and at local farmer's markets. Visit our online store and purchase some - www.beautifuldayri.org/store

Did you know that we served 97 refugees last year, up from the 59 served in 2022? Did you know we hired eight new staff members? And that we launched a new initiative for Afghan women to start their own catering business? You can learn more about Beautiful Day's facts, figures and personal stories in our 2023 Annual Report. The focus of the report is the COMMUNITY we are building with our trainees and with you, our supporters and customers. Together, we can build a community that welcomes refugees and celebrates diversity! Read more in our Annual Report at www.beautifuldayri.org

In April, Beautiful Day was honored to host Senator Jack Reed at our facility. Senator Reed has served Rhode Island in Washington for almost 35 years, first as a Congressman and then as a Senator. He is a firm supporter of refugee resettlement and holds a long track record of authoring legislation favorable to refugees. He was eager to see our operation and speak with our trainees. After arriving at Beautiful Day, the Senator donned one of the necessary (but not exactly elegant) hairnets required in our commercial kitchen. He also accepted a Beautiful Day apron to protect his suit. Then he joined our trainees in the kitchen and practiced stirring and packaging our granola to get a sense of what we do. Who knows? -- maybe your next granola bar will have been prepared by a Senator!!! After leaving the kitchen, Senator Reed toured our production area where he checked out our walk-in cooler and practiced sealing granola bar packages with our sealer machine. He also visited our shipping and kitting areas where he chatted with our shipping manager and operations associates, all former trainees who are now part of our permanent staff. Then he moved into our conference room where he was able to speak further with our trainees and respond to questions. One trainee asked, “What exactly does a senator do?” Great question! Senator Reed says that “welcoming refugees is a humanitarian act that also yields important economic, cultural, and community benefits for Rhode Island and strengthens national security.” We couldn’t agree more! Thank you, Senator Reed, for taking the time to visit us and meet with our trainees. We appreciate your interest, your concern and your willingness to advocate for refugees in Washington.
