An October Cybersecurity Awareness tip from Travis Johnson!
Bedel Security
IT Services and IT Consulting
Using our proven CySPOT™ methodology and team approach, we deliver virtual CISO services exclusively to Community F.I.s
About us
Bedel Security was founded in March of 2015 by Chris Bedel with the dream of making an impact in how community financial institutions handle cybersecurity by simply doing 2 things really well: 1. Provide services to banks and credit unions that allow them to outsource the leadership and expertise in cybersecurity that every bank must have, so they can get the help they need that would be otherwise cost prohibitive as a conventional, full-time employee. 2. Teach people how to be better, successful CISOs and ISOs through coaching and mentorship offerings, allowing them to build skills in a growing industry and be more valuable to their financial institutions. The idea of the company was born in Chris’s mind several year earlier, when during an IT audit, the auditor commented on how he wished a number of their clients could have just a fraction of Chris in their bank to lead and manage their information security programs. Curious, Chris asked the auditor if that was even possible, and his reply was, “yeah, it’s called a virtual ISO.” And although it took two years to make a reality, it was that conversation never left Chris’s mind as a calling that he needed to fulfill. In our time of being in business, we’ve established clients in outsourcing engagements, mentorships, as well as other information security projects, serving clients across the country. Our team consists of over 60 years of experience in information security, cybersecurity, banking, and outsourced CISO services.

"The Three Lines of Defense is a concept used in risk management that ensures that risks are appropriately managed. It’s very similar to the checks and balances we have, at least in concept, in the US Federal Government…the Legislative, Judicial and Executive branches. " -Stephanie Goetz

"Every institution should have an internal penetration test performed annually. The goal of the penetration test is for the tester to try to gain administrative access to the network. In our experience, good testers can achieve this goal over half the time." -Brian Petzold, CISSP

We just finished reading and doing a company wide book study on Co-Intelligence by Ethan Mollick. The book dives into how humans and AI can collaborate to unlock new possibilities, reshaping how we live and work. It offers practical insights on harnessing AI’s potential while emphasizing the importance of human intelligence in partnership with these technologies. A big THANK YOU to Paul Blough for recommending this insightful read! 🙏 Your suggestion sparked meaningful discussions about AI here at Bedel Security. If you’re curious about the future of AI and how it can enhance—not replace—our capabilities, this book is for you. What’s the best book you’ve read recently that reshaped your thinking about technology? We’d love to hear your recommendations in the comments! 👇 #Leadership #AI #CoIntelligence #EthanMollick #Innovation #Collaboration #BookRecommendations #FutureOfWork
