Perception is not reality, episode 17,561: CAUSES OF DEATH. 1: How people really die. 60% heart disease & cancer. 2: Google searches on death: cancer, suicide, terrorism, and diabetes are over-represented. We under-search on heart disease & respiratory diseases. 3: Media coverage of death: 69% is terrorism, suicide & homicide. WAAAY over-represented. As Willy Hearst said, "If it bleeds, it leads." (He said that in the 1890s. Some things don't change.) A couple thoughts for businesses & brands: 📺 Perception isn't always reality. (Obvi.) For the problem you're solving. For how well your brand solves it vs a competitor. Etc. 📺 Media influences people. (Again, obvi.) So use media if you can to influence perception. 📺 Don't believe polls are accurate measures of reality. They measure perception.
