Frustrated by OVER or UNDER stocked fridge/freezer? Manage your fridge like a lean inventory system. Apply 'Kanban', a lean tool, by designating specific sections for commonly used items and placing a visual marker (like a sticker or card) when supplies run low. This signals when it's time to replenish, ensuring you stock just enough and avoid over-purchasing. Regularly review your inventory to remove expired items and adjust your restocking triggers as family needs change. This reduces waste, saves money, and keeps your kitchen efficient and organized. **Value Stream Mapping for Family Morning Routines**: Sketch out the steps involved in morning routines to identify wasted time and make your mornings more efficient. - **Who**: Any family member looking to improve their mornings can lead the activity - **When**: Take time to do this on a quiet evening. - **Why**: • This will help pinpoint and eliminate time sinks, making mornings smoother and less stressful, leading to a more positive start to everyone's day. Additionally, by streamlining routines, each family member's time is respected, reducing conflicts and creating a more peaceful morning atmosphere. • How: Gather as a family on a quiet evening to discuss and sketch out each person's morning routine, from waking up to leaving the house. Write down each step involved, such as showering, preparing breakfast, and getting dressed, making sure everyone is honest about how long each task typically takes. Together, analyse these steps to identify overlapping activities, bottlenecks, or unnecessary delays. Look for ways to stagger or adjust tasks so that everyone’s time is optimised, and create a revised schedule that allows for a smoother, more efficient morning routine that respects each person’s needs and timing.
