It's time for another installment of Saved by the Belle - Member Stories that Showcase Our Value, and Our Mission!   Episode 4: Time Heals All Wounds   Mary is 78 and has a history of diabetic complications, including ulcerations and an amputation. During one of our in-home medical pedicures, a Belle Technician observed an open wound at the base of Mary’s right great toe. The technician immediately initiated a call with Mary and Belle’s clinical team.   Mary shared that the area was painful, but she was trying to tough it out until her next podiatrist appointment in a few weeks. We urged Mary to go to urgent care and have the wound evaluated as soon as possible.   Mary agreed and received proper treatment from urgent care, including antibiotics and wound cultures. Belle notified her podiatrist about the situation. During her scheduled podiatry visit, Mary had the dead tissue removed from the wound and received a targeted antibiotic. Our clinical team provided additional education on blood sugar control and increased protein intake to promote healing. Mary was fortunate Belle helped address the issue before a worst case scenario unfolded.   This story is one of a million. If you’d like to hear more, leave a comment below or stay tuned for another episode! #WoundCare #CareCoordination #Diabetes #Inhomefootcare #MedicareAdvantage

Quality of care and member satisfaction often go hand-in-hand, according to Kelsey Waddill, managing editor at Healthcare Payers. Her recent article discusses top insurance industry trends related to quality measures. In it, she suggests that payers can "focus on growth in the patient experience arena" to further their success. A key quote in the article: "Listen to your members. What are they saying? What are their experiences like? Are they able to get the care they need in a timely, efficient manner? Can they get their claims paid on time without too many hoops to jump through?" - Amar Hundle, assistant director of information products at NCQA. The piece also points to a recent J.D. Power study that showed health plans with high member satisfaction specifically were able to gain members' trust. We buy into this concept at Belle, which is why joy has always been our North Star. We are proud to partner with health plans who are committed to delivering a quality member experience. Our clients can confirm that when you delight members and build trust, all the doors open. Announced Today! Belle and Cloud303 Fuel Development of AI Technology for In-Home Preventive Care Powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS)   This morning we announced an exciting new initiative that aims to revolutionize preventive care in the home. In partnership with Cloud303, a leading provider of cloud-based healthcare solutions, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), we are accelerating the development of strategic artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to dramatically strengthen our overall model. This includes better documentation during in-home visits that is more consistent, accurate, and actionable, as well as expediting patient education and necessary clinical triage based on concerns documented during each visit.   In short, Belle will be using custom AI to upskill technicians by providing additional tools for capturing information, identifying risk, and coordinating care for potential health concerns. This technology will also allow Belle to more deeply personalize member recommendations and integrate outreach from health plans and extended care teams to the benefit of individuals. According to Eli Goldberg, Belle’s VP of Data and Innovation: “Diabetic foot complications account for more than a quarter of what is spent on diabetes care in the U.S. each year. There is significant research that shows we can prevent the vast majority of these complications through proper care and early identification. When we have completed this initiative, we will exponentially increase our ability to save limbs and lives by anticipating and avoiding potential issues among the members we are serving.” Thanks to all the awesome team members collaborating on this project, with special recognition of Mike Shield, MBA from AWS and Evan A., Caol Kuhney and Jay Rowland at Cloud303. It’s Falls Prevention Awareness Week! Let’s all do our part to help prevent unnecessary falls among older adults under our care. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults, leading to serious injuries and increased risk of additional falls. For years, the National Council on Aging has been committed to changing the trajectory of falls-related injuries by helping older adults gain the confidence and skills needed to prevent a fall. Their efforts include the Falls Prevention Awareness Week campaign, which kicks off today! At Belle, we are proud to do our part with the members we serve. Given that we are typically working with a population that is managing multiple chronic conditions and experiencing a variety of issues with their legs and feet, falls are among the most common health risks we see. Our team works diligently to help members address the risk of falls. On average, we see a 4% absolute reduction (~35% relative reduction) in fall risks within the populations we serve. If you want to join in and support this cause, the NCOA has pulled together a comprehensive toolkit to help you. In our latest blog, we discuss how community health workers are a just in time response for avoiding systematic collapse beneath the weight of a dwindling healthcare workforce. By the year 2033, the U.S. will experience a shortage of up to 139,000 physicians. The nursing profession is following a similar trajectory. Both groups are experiencing high levels of burnout. We are operating within an environment that is increasingly fragmented, inefficient and expensive. There is inadequate access. Care coordination and quality are inconsistent. Social determinants of health largely go undetected and unaddressed. With this backdrop, it is no surprise that we are seeing the deployment of non-clinical resources to extend the reach of medical professionals. In many cases, these resources are being sent directly to the homes of individuals who are struggling with chronic disease. Keep reading here: https://lnkd.in/gx2tpU5N to learn how community health workers are being deployed to bridge the care gap, and specifically how Belle is part of this necessary trend. #homehealth #inhomefootcare #communityhealthworkers #healthcare #innovation #phyisicianshortage #nursingshortage

Episode 3 of our Saved by the Belle series is here! Saved by the Belle: Member Stories that Showcase Our Value, and Our Mission   Episode 3: We Got You Covered   Michael is 80 years old. He manages multiple conditions, including diabetes, kidney disease and edema (swelling in his legs).   When we met Michael for his first medical pedicure, we learned he had been experiencing significant weight loss. He recently had a feeding tube surgically placed to help him take in more calories. But there was a problem. Michael couldn’t afford the supplemental nutrition solution for the tube. He had reached out to his health plan, but a representative told him the product wasn’t covered by his insurance.   Our team connected with Michael’s primary care physician (PCP) and shared what was happening. The PCP’s office reached out to the health plan to explain Michael’s situation. With the additional context from the doctor, the health plan approved coverage for the nutrition solution and scheduled regular shipments to Michael’s home.   By helping Michael advocate for what he needed, we were able to prevent additional health complications due to malnutrition. Without the supplements, Michael would have continued to lose weight and risk further health decline.   This story is one of a million. If you’d like to hear more, leave a comment below or stay tuned for another episode!     #Malnutrition #CareCoordination #Diabetes #KidneyDisease #Inhomefootcare #MedicareAdvantage #SDOH

Point solutions provide both opportunity and obstacles for healthcare buyers. Here are some suggestions when selecting the right ones for your organization. Employers and payers have grown fatigued with the number of point solutions bombarding their organizations. Having to navigate a crowded marketplace is just part of the problem, though. Many point solutions don't add real value, and they create additional fragmentation in the care members receive while frustrating providers who are already burned out and overburdened. As your organization is evaluating potential solutions moving forward, here are a few suggestions to help you get to the right points.
