Your member-owned co-op serving members in Benton, Yakima & Lewis counties with electricity, internet and IT services.
About us
The Benton Rural Electric Association is your not-for-profit consumer-owned electric cooperative. Our members elect eight board members who represent their interest in terms of policies, the direction of the utility, and actions taken by the Association. Any profits above cost belong to our members. These net margins that remain, after all expenses, are returned to our members who paid their electric bills. These funds are called ownership credits. When sufficient cash reserves are on hand the trustees can authorize a refund of ownership credits accrued to the people who were members of the co-op during the year authorized for refund. To date, we've returned more than $15.5 million to our members.

Our trustees Bill Shibley and Scott Fisher, as well as our Deputy general manager Troy Berglund and Director of energy policy Josh Lozano explored the Priest Rapids Dam’s powerhouse, learned about the fish hatchery, and marveled at the Wanapum Dam’s impressive 2,100+ megawatts of clean, renewable energy. We also honored the rich history at the Wanapum Heritage Center, near the site of their former village. Huge thanks to Inland Power for organizing this insightful event and to Grant PUD for hosting! #CleanEnergy #Heritage #Partnerships

We recently received the following email, and want to thank this member for taking the time to reach out with these kind words. Our team members we're happy to help and happy to know that their dedication is appreciated. "I’m writing to let you know about two stellar employees who really stepped up to help me. My meter reader let me know that my usage was abnormally high. She checked in with BREA and they confirmed my meter had been recording very high usage. She suggested I call the energy efficiency manager to come and check out my electrical system to see what was using up so much power. I called and he was at my home within 45 minutes and quickly figured out my problem, a malfunctioning electric heat pump air handler. Because of their commitment to BREA customer service, I was able to notify my HVAC technician and have my unit fixed the next day. Had my meter reader not contacted me, I’d have continued to use power at an alarming rate resulting in an even higher bill than I already have. I deeply appreciate their quick and knowledgeable service." #goingaboveandbeyond #membersfirst #electriccoop
