Dr. Debbie Jones is the Arkansas Superintendent of the Year! She was surprised with the honor at a scheduled Board of Education meeting by Dr. Mike Hernandez, Executive Director of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators. Dr. Jones was chosen for her work to make schools safer for students across the state and her efforts to secure affordable housing for Bentonville teachers. Bentonville Schools is #whereexcellencelives and it starts at the top!

Bentonville High School Valedictorian Chandra Suda has received scholarships and acceptance letters to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Stanford, Johns Hopkins...the list goes on and on. That's not why we're sharing his story though. What sets Chandra apart is the work he's done to get here. Chandra developed a smartphone app that can detect tuberculosis from the sound of a patient's cough. Tuberculosis kills 1.3 million people every year, mostly in rural and low-income nations. Chandra's work is now in clinical trials, but the implications for this app are huge, especially in the lives of young children. Congratulations, Chandra! You make Bentonville Schools #whereexcellencelives and our world a better place.

In the News! Dr. Will Richardson, Associate Professor in the Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical Engineering, has been working with some local/NWA high school students on heart research. Using computer modeling they are examining multiple biomarkers to develop methods for the early detection of heart failure. This is a wonderful example of engaging K-12 students in STEM research, sparking their passion for engineering, and supporting positive impacts on society. . https://lnkd.in/gwJYfV8h . Ralph E.
