When Eduardo Ramirez was a child in Cancun, he often played doctor, caring for sick family members by taking their temperature and comforting them by their bedside. The idea of becoming a real doctor seemed daunting until, as a young man, he experienced psilocybin, which motivated him to pursue his dreams. Now 36, Dr. Ramirez serves as one of Beond’s clinical directors. He's balanced boldness and safety throughout his life, from earning a karate black belt to scuba diving, where he follows strict safety protocols. This focus on safety carried over into his medical career. Dr. Ramirez spent a year with Mexico’s Huichol tribe, learning about the indigenous use of psychedelics and participating in traditional peyote ceremonies. After witnessing unsafe iboga retreats lacking medical care, Dr. Ramirez joined Beond to ensure ibogaine treatments are conducted with proper medical oversight, including heart monitoring and supplementary care. His goal is to blend indigenous traditions with modern medicine, ensuring that Beond’s clients receive safe, transformative experiences. Beond is featured in Lucid News, Inc. latest article exploring ibogaine treatment centers. As one of the largest treatment centers in Mexico, Beond is noted for its exemplary clinical and ethical standards, with a dedicated team of licensed physicians and ICU-certified nurses. “Beond is the first clinic to apply the Stanford University observations to healthy adults seeking improvement in performance. The results of these treatments, like the outcomes of all of Beond’s patients, are recorded in detail to match U.S. standards (i.e. “HIPAA compliant”). The Beond database will not only serve as support for clinical trials of ibog*ine in the U.S. but also potentially validate the Stanford observation on heightened cognition in adults.” With advanced digital technologies, Beond collects 176 data points on every patient, conducting extensive physiotherapeutic assessments and using standard diagnostic tools to monitor psychiatric disorders, ensuring improved treatment efficacy." High achievers and those facing addiction often share a commonality: their brains respond to dopamine in strikingly similar ways. This neurotransmitter, responsible for pleasure and motivation, plays a crucial role in both success and dependency. Understanding the genetic factors that influence dopamine receptors can shed light on why some individuals may struggle to find satisfaction in everyday life, leading them to seek out more intense experiences.

Psychedelic substances have been used for centuries by Indigenous communities across the Global South, not just for individual healing but to build connections within the community and with the natural and spiritual worlds. As highlighted in the recent BBC Future (@bbcfuture_official) article, these "spirit medicines" played a crucial role in sacred rituals, collective healing, and restoring balance. They weren’t just about alleviating personal symptoms—they were seen as a way to heal the whole community. At Beond, we resonate deeply with this approach. We believe healing is not a solitary journey but one supported by a collective experience. This is why we incorporate daily group activities like gratitude circles, yoga, breathwork, sound healing and more, along with weekly online group meditation and integration sessions for all our past guests. These community-based practices are designed to support deeper connections, foster collective growth, and help us integrate healing experiences into our daily lives, ensuring that the benefits are long-lasting. As Celidwen mentioned in the article, "The real power of psyche delics lies in their ability to encourage bonds between people and communities, as part of a collective experience." At Beond, we take this wisdom to heart, ensuring that every guest not only receives personal healing but becomes part of a supportive, interconnected community.  ➡️ Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gtdb8qqU #psychedelicresearch #mentalhealth #communityishealing

On July 29, 2022, Bryan Hubbard, head of Kentucky’s Op*o*d Abatement Advisory Commission, was introduced to ibog*ine by journalist Julia Blum, a Beond alumna. During their call, Blum explained the transformative power of this African plant medicine in addressing substance use disorders. Though Hubbard had never heard of it, the conversation ignited his interest in its potential for treating addiction. As detailed in Reason's article, this exchange marked a pivotal moment in Hubbard’s pursuit to bring iboga*ne to greater awareness in the U.S. amidst regulatory challenges. The piece discusses the unique, transformative effects of the treatment and the political, financial, and regulatory challenges that stand in the way of its broader acceptance in America. Meet Dr. Eduardo Ramirez, whose journey to becoming a doctor started with childhood dreams and a transformative experience with psychedel!cs. As one of Beond’s clinical directors, Dr. Ramirez balances his adventurous spirit with a deep commitment to safety, a commitment seeded in him from a very young age that's grown through his personal scuba endeavors, flourished through his work with indigenous community, and continues to thrive with Beond. His story is not only inspiring but also highlights the importance of rigorous medical care in psychedelic therapy. “There’s not one second during ibog*ine treatment when a person is without medical supervision. We have board-certified ICU physicians and emergency doctors onsite at all times, ensuring a safe and controlled environment for every client.” At Beond, safety protocols include the constant use of digital technologies, helping us monitor heart health before, during, and after treatment. "Every client undergoes at least five echocardiograms to confirm and maintain heart health throughout the treatment process." A recent The New York Times article brings new insights into how we view and treat addiction. While the brain-disease model has been the prevailing narrative, new research suggests that focusing solely on this idea may overlook critical factors like personal choice, social environment, and life context. "Some scientists argue that brain-centric disease characterizations of addiction do not sufficiently incorporate factors like social environment and genetics. In the recent critique, researchers contended that, rather than emphasizing the brain’s brokenness in perpetuity, an addiction definition should include the motivation or context in which the person chose to use drugs." "I don’t think it helps to tell people they are chronically diseased and therefore incapable of change. Then what hope do we have?” - Kirsten E. Smith At Beond, we deeply understand that addiction isn’t a simple issue of brain dysfunction. Healing requires addressing the root causes—whether trauma, societal pressures, or mental health challenges—and offering people the choice to reclaim their lives. The focus should not be on feeling permanently broken, but on fostering environments that empower change and healing. "The brain is highly dynamic, as is our environment," and this flexibility gives hope for real, lasting recovery. #addictiontreatment #mentalhealth Read full article here: https://lnkd.in/eFbmm3yT
