It’s Women’s History Month and we’re celebrating Native leaders, past and present, all month. Of course, our kickoff post had to be Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte (Omaha), the first Indigenous woman to earn a medical degree. Picotte was an accomplished doctor, an advocate for her people, and a reformer, all well before Indians were granted citizenship and women even had the right to vote.
