About us
Our Mission Statement: The Best Day of My Life So Far provides a cure for social isolation, by empowering older adults to share life stories and inspiring human connection across generational and social divides. About Social Isolation: 11 million, or 28%, of older Americans are at risk for social isolation. Isolation is the cause of many physical and mental health issues such as depression, diabetes and lung disease. Isolation can also impair the immune system and increase cognitive decline. Additionally, isolated older adults face a 26% higher chance of early death. In 2020, with the country and world facing massive health, economic and social crises, “isolation” suddenly transformed into a household word and a shared experience across generations. About Our Solution: Our solution for isolation is to twofold: to empower older adults to share life stories, and through the sharing of those stories, inspire genuine human connection across generational and social divides. Field tested nationwide and backed by international research, our storytelling programs deliver these 6 key benefits: * Social Engagement * Technological Engagement * Intergenerational Engagement * Cognitive Activity * Reminiscence Activity * Emotional Expression What We Do: We empower older adults to open up about their deeper thoughts and feelings by telling stories from their lives, while providing a range of training options so that everyone (from family members, youth, young adults, college students, to care professionals) can become skilled and compassionate listeners. We began providing a fluid mix of face-to-face and digital programming in 2009. In 2020, in response to the global pandemic, we expanded all of our programs to include more robust virtual options, and are ready to take our work into the future.

Truly special event at Inkwood Books last night - a conversation between Julia Hotz, author of the new book “The Connection Cure,” and Benita Cooper RA, LEED AP, founder of The Best Day of My Life So Far, a non-profit focused on curing social isolation. We’ve been supporting Best Day for a few years now and saw in May that this new book was coming out about social prescriptions. It details that instead of just prescribing drugs, more doctors are recommending social activities, based on convincing and growing evidence that connecting with others and the surrounding world can improve both mental and physical health. Best Day Vice President Sandi Adams reached out to Julia and was able to coordinate a stop on her national book tour right here in Haddonfield. What made it even more serendipitous is that Best Day is celebrating its 15th anniversary right down the street, at Haddon Fortnightly, on Nov. 15. As Julia said, “we need to clone the Benita Coopers of the world” to bring more services like Best Day’s to more people.
