Congratulations to our Michigan SafeCare® Team on a successful first SafeCare® accreditation achievement! This accreditation signifies that Bethany Christian Services has provided documentation of compliance with all SafeCare® Implementation Standards, which are based on core program criteria that promote high-quality service delivery to maximize the effectiveness of SafeCare® for families.    This team spreads across three Michigan branches (Benton Harbor, East Lansing, and Southfield) and is supported by a Regional SafeCare Program Manager and consists of five certified providers and two certified coaches/supervisors that collectively provide SafeCare® services across 13 counties in Michigan.    SafeCare® is an evidence-based, 18-week, in-home program for parents of children 5 years old or younger who are at-risk for or have been reported for child neglect or physical abuse. SafeCare® Providers work with families in their homes, weekly for 50-90 minutes, to improve parents’ skills in three areas: parent-infant/ child interactions, home safety and child health care. Ebony was just 17, homeless, and caring for a newborn when she entered foster care. But through Bethany Christian Services and the YouthBuild program, she found the support system she needed to turn her life around. "When they took me, it was better than where I was at." Today, Ebony is moving forward with confidence, thanks to her GED and a clear vision for the future. Her story is a reminder of how programs like YouthBuild and foster care can truly change lives. After years of living in a residential facility, Bryon was used to the rules of that highly structured and monitored environment. Being adopted by a family at 17 was completely different, and the freedom he found took some getting used to. This #NationalFosterYouthVoiceMonth, Jonathan describes the feeling of uncertainty for teens in foster care, waiting to be adopted. It’s scary when your friends have a family to go home to, but you don’t. As he got to know his foster family, and would argue with them as teens often do, he was surprised at how they’d argue back. And he discovered why—they loved him. Adopted at 17, Jonathan found a family that will always welcome him home.

At Bethany Christian Services, we believe healing comes in many forms. Our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) work closely with teens in our residential programs, helping them regain confidence and joy through tailored activities like adventure therapy and music.
