Despite what you might hear from anti-mining groups, the Flambeau Mine out of Ladysmith, Wisconsin was a success and is a great example of responsible industry. The Flambeau Mine was a Copper mine and it was located along the shores of the Flambeau River and operated from 1993 to 1997 and finished reclamation by 1999. Flambeau was the first mine to earn permits and operate under Wisconsin’s stringent mining laws. The WDNR holds Flambeau as an example of a successful operation and successful closure. The reclaimed site is now home to acres of wetlands, hundreds of species of plants and animals, miles of hiking trails, and five miles of equestrian trails open to the public year-round. I had the privilege of participating in a dynamic panel discussion at the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Annual Conference this year. It was an honor to share the stage with Misael Cabrera, PE, Mila Besich, Steve Trussell, and Drew Trojanowski, as we explored the critical role domestic mining plays in the green energy transition and national security. At Resolution Copper, we’re working every day to responsibly develop one of the world’s largest untapped copper resources, which will be essential for meeting the rising demand for copper in sustainable technologies like electric vehicles, renewable energy, and modern infrastructure. I'm grateful for the chance to share insights on this important topic and for the thoughtful dialogue among fellow panelists. Together, we can lead the way toward a more sustainable future powered by innovation, collaboration, and critical minerals. #SustainableMining #GreenEnergyTransition #MiningMatters #CriticalMinerals #ResolutionCopper #AZCities2024 #CopperForTheFuture

Breaking News: Major Victory for Energy Security in the Upper Midwest! The Wisconsin DNR has just released the final environmental impact statement for Enbridge's Line 5 Segment Relocation Project, marking a crucial milestone in advancing the project and ensuring the continued supply of affordable, reliable energy to Wisconsin and the broader Great Lakes region. The project has been carefully designed to minimize temporary construction disruptions, and after a thorough review, the Wisconsin DNR has presented their findings in the Final Environmental Impact Statement. Once permitted, the project involves constructing a new replacement segment of the Line 5 pipeline around the Bad River Reservation. This development will inject hundreds of millions of dollars into local communities, generate over 700 union jobs, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of vital energy that millions of regional consumers depend on daily. https://lnkd.in/git_Wc2Q

Chief External Affairs Officer @ Talon Metals | Experienced Senior Executive in Government Affairs, Media, Communities and Climate Change areas of responsibility
Great talking to Hannah Northey of Politico/EE News about the Department of Labor's addition of Indonesian nickel to the annual listing of products produced with forced labor this last week. My view here: Todd Malan, Talon's chief external affairs officer and head of climate strategy, applauded the agency's listing and said it adds new weight to the clear "reputational risk" of sourcing nickel from Chinese producers in Indonesia. Talon, notably, is pursuing a nickel project in Tamarack, Minnesota, through a joint venture with Rio Tinto and has received support from Tesla Inc., through a nonbinding off-take agreement for the minerals. "In the last seven years, Chinese investment in Indonesian nickel production has ramped-up without regard for environmental impacts, labor and safety standards, economic benefits for communities or impacts on uncontacted indigenous people," said Malan. "The Department of Labor’s forced labor designation this week is just one more reason that a mineral free trade agreement between the US and Indonesia is highly unlikely in the near future." https://lnkd.in/geW6uCth

Perpetua Resources announced yesterday that they expect to receive a favorable draft Record of Decision for the Stibnite Project from the U.S. Forest Service as early as today. This marks a major milestone after eight years of federal permitting, underscoring Perpetua’s dedication to responsible mining. It’s also a crucial step toward bolstering U.S. mineral independence and reducing reliance on China for critical minerals. With China recently announcing export controls on antimony starting September 15th, the timing of the U.S. Forest Service's decision couldn't be more opportune. "It's a huge milestone to get to... We expect to have a final record of decision by the end of the year. We're right on track and it's looking very positive." Jon Cherry - President and CEO of Perpetua Resources A huge thank you to Jon for taking the time to speak with BIOBY's Ryan Sistad about this exciting development!
