We are excited to share that our "Create Your Peace" DIY Canvas workshop was an incredible success! This workshop, part of our DIY program, provided survivors with a therapeutic and empowering outlet for creative expression. Using weather insulation strips, participants created stunning spirals and curves on canvas, learning new artistic techniques and gaining valuable skills for creating accessible art for their spaces. Spirals and curves are not just visually appealing—they are known to have a calming effect and symbolize growth and healing. They also create a sense of movement and flow in interior design, contributing to a peaceful and restorative environment. Did you know that research has shown that curved forms are aesthetically preferred and can evoke positive emotions by engaging the brain’s emotional network, promoting feelings of safety? (Sources: MDPI, ArchDaily). Not only was our "Create Your Peace" workshop empowering, but it also fostered a sense of community. Despite living at Artemis House shelter, many of the women who had not met or seen each other before connected and supported one another through the creative process. Through events like these, we are committed to offering survivors practical tools for healing and self-expression while promoting resourcefulness. Thank you to everyone who made this night possible and to our amazing participants for their creativity and resilience—your support helps us continue empowering and uplifting survivors through the transformative power of design.
