The future of STEM looks bright! 😎
Peer mentors from Mystic Aquarium’s STEM Mentoring program at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore were selected to join other peer mentors from across the country at last week’s Peer Mentor Leadership Academy in Connecticut. Participants engaged in developmental workshops related to teamwork, relationship-building, anti-bullying, environmental conservation and leadership skills to further enhance their effectiveness in mentoring at their home sites. Additionally, participants attended a Career Fair at Mystic Aquarium focused on Women in STEM, visited the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, conducted quality water testing and went on Environmental Stewardship field trips focused on conservation while building relationships with other peer mentors from Clubs nationwide. Maryland Clubs continue to pursue opportunities to improve programming offered at our sites through developmental training for young people. Thanks to Mystic Aquarium for this impactful experience!

What an amazing day on Capitol Hill! It was truly inspiring to see teens from across America. Especially those from Baltimore City, engaging in discussions about community issues, advocating for their peers, and highlighting the transformative impact of their membership at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore During their visit to the offices of Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin, as well as Congressman Kweisi Mfume, they represented not only Baltimore City but also the diverse youth and teens from Boys & Girls Clubs across Maryland alongside Mark Piccirilli and Vanessa Lyon.

Today marked a huge milestone: groundbreaking on the Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club at Hilton Recreation Center! We are so proud of this partnership with the Baltimore Ravens and the Stephen and Renee Bisciotti Foundation to bring a beacon of hope and opportunity to youth in West Baltimore. Proud to be expanding our presence in Howard County with the first Boys & Girls Club on a community college campus in Maryland!
Howard County Executive, Calvin Ball, announced proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 operating budget investments to support the launch of a new Boys & Girls Club at Howard Community College (HCC). This will be the first Boys & Girls Club on the campus of a community college in Maryland and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore looks forward to providing tweens and teens from the Wilde Lake community with enriching activities and new opportunities for success. On Friday, we crowned our 2024 Youth of the Year in a competition at the beautiful Access Holdings office in downtown Baltimore. 🏆 Congratulations, Ashawnte from our Brooklyn O’Malley Club! We are so proud of you, and your fellow candidates, Madison and AuPrince! 👏👏👏 Youth of the Year honors and celebrates teens for their community service, academic excellence, character, and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle. Year-round programming culminates in an annual competition to crown one teen our Youth of the Year. Ashawnte will advance to represent #BGCBaltimore in the statewide competition later this month.
