    You can’t control what people say. But you can control how you respond. Comments, feedback, opinions- Some helpful, some hurtful. If we react emotionally to every little thing, we suffer. We hand over control to others. Leadership isn’t about reacting. It’s about pausing. Observe with logic, not emotion. And choose where to place your energy. If words control you, everyone can control you. Not every battle is worth fighting. Not every word deserves your attention. The real power is knowing when to walk away. Restraint is a muscle. It takes practice, but it’s one worth building. Here’s how to practice it: 1️⃣ Pause before replying to that frustrating email. 2️⃣ Reflect on whether an offhand remark deserves your energy. 3️⃣ Breathe through tense moments - inhale, exhale, and let go. 4️⃣ Reset your mindset before responding thoughtfully.     The companies that don't adapt roles and expectations to be more flexible and accommodating aren't going to be able to attract the same level of talent. People need to be able to prioritize those they care for - which requires a bit of patience, understanding, and flexibility from those around them / their employers and colleagues. Making that happen is difficult. It is complex. It requires two-way trust. It requires accountability. It requires performance. Above all else it requires clear, consistent, authentic communication.     Rest is so important. It can be difficult (impossible) to compartmentalize everything going on in your life to focus on your work priorities. We all have a lot going on. Daily routines, obligations, relationships. Just making it to the end of the day can be a huge accomplishment some days. Even worse - when you log off for the day, it's difficult to leave 100% of work behind. Not just the stress of deadlines and expectations - but the emotional toll of the relationships we have at work. Work can be a place to find connection and community. A place to find friendship and comradery. And with those connections comes the emotional toll that human connection can bring with it. For all of the joy, happiness, excitement, and laughter - there are inevitably moments of loss, sadness, anger, and grief. People who work at companies with tight-knit cultures have been through it. It can be an incredible support system - but also a source of stress and sadness. Especially as you take on leadership roles. It's a lot to handle. It can take a toll. Some days, weeks, and months - it starts to feel overwhelming. Like everything is hitting you all at once. Murphy's law. Pause. Rest. When you feel like you can't. You can. You're trying to do too much. It's always okay to prioritize yourself. I promise. Whatever deliverables and deadlines you are focused on - whatever it is that is going to crash and burn if you stop giving it all of this time and attention - It's going to be okay. Let it crash and burn. You are more important. Today is a great day to plan your next vacation. #BeIntentional #BeAccountable #KeepGoing #BeGoodPeople

    Happy Monday! I didn't know what to post about today, so here are 5 good deeds that wouldn't cost too much to do: 1) Thank someone who has positively impacted your life. 2) Walk around your neighborhood with a trash bag and see if you can fill it up. 3) Teach someone a skill you're good at / enjoy - i.e. cooking, language, instrument, etc. 4) Make a care package from items you already have for a friend going through a tough time. 5) Provide mentorship or coaching to someone in your field of work or study.     Every Linkedin post I have ever made has made me uncomfortable. Everyone says it gets easier, but it's still awkward for me. Unfortunately (fortunately), BGP's core values are to Be Intentional, Be Accountable, Keep Going, and Be Good People. In order for me to work with the people and companies I want to work with, it needs to be clear how I think about building businesses and coaching people. There are plenty of fractional executive firms that a company could hire, and there are plenty of companies that BGP could provide fractional executive services for. The key is figuring out which companies want to build a culture and infrastructure aligned with the way BGP operates. You need a strategy rooted to a meaningful purpose. A purpose that you are clear about, and a purpose that is shared by the people you are hiring and working with. Strategy isn't enough though - you need to be able to execute. You need to be able to habit build. You need to be able to continuously improve. You need a culture that reflects the ideas, innovation, and diversity of every stakeholder in the company. You need to be you, and you need to be able to do it profitably. #BeIntentional In order to reach the people in our network that we would enjoy working with the most - we need to be more open with our philosophies and capabilities. Starting the conversation knowing we are aligned at that level allows for more impact and value. #BeAccountable Post (authentically) on Linkedin every day for 30 days.
