  • Also known as The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, “Orange Shirt Day” began in Canada to recognize the atrocities and multi-generational effects of the Canadian Indian residential school system. We wear orange shirts for the thousands of Indigenous children who were taken away from their families and did not survive residential boarding schools in both the US and Canada. On this special day of remembrance we consider Indigenous children who needed help and it was not there for them. Those survivors, their children and grandchildren are a legacy that live on in our communities and families. Wearing an orange shirt is but one way we can honor and commemorate this trauma.
