On August 15th, we, together with 5th Square and Philly Bike Action, delivered a petition with nearly 6,000 petition signatures and 4,000 comments to the Mayor's Office at City Hall. On August 30th, Mayor Parker and Managing Director Thiel held a press conference with us in which they addressed the petition and its requests, and joined members of the community for a short bike ride. On September 4th, Council President Johnson invited us and other advocates to meet with him and his team to discuss Council's role. On September 5th, Council President Johnson introduced a bill that would change parking regulations in bike lanes from “no parking” to “no stopping or standing” citywide. Crash death statistics alone are not enough for planning safer streets. Bike counts serve to back up community input and makes greater infrastructure for vulnerable road users an easier choice for decision makers. Want to help? We are looking for a Part Time Intern to Manage our 2024 Bike Counts. Application details at https://lnkd.in/eZzJKWc8

The Annual Gala & Awards Dinner celebrates Greater Philadelphia’s agents of change in the bicycling community, from youth athletes and their supporters to community organizers and advocates. This year, Camden County Commissioner Jeffrey Nash will accept the Connect the Circuit Award for their commitment to further develop the LINK Trail, a key component of the Circuit Trails network. We're also honored to present the I Bike PHL Award to KRT/QRT Cycling Club, whose extensive community of cyclists began with 4 eager riders from northwest Philadelphia. We hope you will join us in celebrating these change makers on September 26th. We're still seeking silent and live auction items! If you’d like to contribute a unique item or experience, please fill out the form at bit.ly/BCGPauction. Funds raised at the Gala support our year-round education and advocacy work on behalf of all people’s right to safe mobility. https://lnkd.in/ezRi4-HF
