BigHat’s mission is to improve human health by making it far easier to design advanced, next-generation antibody therapeutics. Our AI-enabled experimental platform integrates a high-speed characterization or “wet” lab with machine learning technologies to speed the antibody engineering process. When applied, these design capabilities have the potential to drive the development of new generations of safer and more effective treatments for patients suffering from today’s most challenging diseases. BigHat is backed by Section 32, Andreessen Horowitz, 8VC, Amgen Ventures, Bristol Myers Squibb, Quadrille, Grids Capital, AME Cloud Ventures, Innovation Endeavors and Gaingels.

    We’re excited to share that Elizabeth Schwarzbach, CBO of BigHat Biosciences, will be participating in a panel at Tough Tech Week 2024, titled Partnering for Speed & Progress in Human Health. In this discussion, Liz will draw on her experience to highlight how partnerships are essential in driving biotech innovation. The panel will explore the vital role of collaborations between startups, venture capital, and large pharmaceutical companies in overcoming challenges such as regulatory hurdles and navigating clinical trials.     We welcome Diana, Rima and Helena! Diana David joins us as Executive Administrator to BigHat’s Corporate Dev & Ops team. Diana will support BigHat’s Leadership, Business Development, and Recruiting related administrative activities. After over two years of incredible work with us via Persona, we’re thrilled to officially have her on board. She's passionate about growth and learning and is currently pursuing her MBA at Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University. Rima Sanyal joins us as Associate Scientist, Translational Research. Rima will be performing and developing immunological assays to support our internal programs pipeline. Rima has a wealth of experience in immunology, with a background in T cell biology, biochemistry and CAR-T therapy manufacturing. Prior to joining BigHat, she assisted in the discovery and deorphanization of T cell receptors to advance diagnostic and therapeutic efforts for cancer and autoimmune diseases at Adaptive Biotechnologies Corp. Rima holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Chapman University. Helena Fu joins us as Research Associate II, Translational Research. At BigHat, Helena will lead various in vitro studies and antibody engineering efforts at BigHat, supporting our internal programs. Helena graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology. Previously she was at Twist Bioscience, where she was involved in antibody discovery efforts. She has experience in kinetics, phage display, and antibody engineering.     🌟 A BIG Thank You! Peyton Greenside Summits Kilimanjaro for Sickle Forward! 🏔️🎉 We are thrilled to announce that BigHat’s Cofounder and CSO, Peyton Greenside has successfully completed the Timmerman Traverse, summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro along with 20 other team members to raise funds for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in sub-Saharan Africa! 🌍 Thanks to your support, we not only reached but exceeded our $50,000 goal, contributing to over $2 million total to bring newborn screening and treatment to those in need. We are also excited to share that BigHat’s work continues with a next-gen antibody for treating and preventing SCD vaso-occlusive crises in preclinical development. Stay tuned for more updates on our program.     We welcome Sayantan Mitra, Ph.D., Isabella Bangs and Tim Randle! Sayantan Mitra, Ph.D. joins us as Director, Protein Sciences. Sayantan will be focusing on scaling BigHat’s Protein Sciences team and setting an ambitious technical roadmap supporting the mission of advancing BigHat’s state-of-the-art antibody engineering platform and therapeutic pipeline. Sayantan is a protein engineer with a deep passion for helping discover and develop novel therapeutic treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases. He has over 16 years of experience in peptide chemistry, protein and antibody engineering, therapeutic antibody discovery, cytokine engineering and cell therapy. He has been a key contributor to several different modalities in clinical development such as monoclonal antibodies, conditionally active bispecific antibodies and engineered cytokines. Prior to joining BigHat, Sayantan led the Protein Sciences team at Metagenomi developing innovative ex-vivo cell therapies. Sayantan holds a PhD in Chemical Biology from the University of Southern California and conducted Postdoctoral Research in Cell Biology at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. Isabella Bangs joins as Lab Operations Associate. Isabella will further enhance our ability to support all aspects of lab activity as well as help scale lab operations. Isabella received a BS in Botany from Cal Poly Humboldt, where she specialized in plant cell culture and plant physiology. Prior to BigHat, she spent two years at Green Diamond Resource Company's clonal Sequoia sempervirens laboratory, aiding the Silviculture department in reforestation of Northern California. Her focus was improving recovery protocols for contaminated culture and improving drought-tolerant phenotypes. Tim Randle joins BigHat as Director, Development Program Management.  As the program management lead for the development organization, he will play a pivotal role in organizing and structuring the Development team at BigHat, leading strategic initiatives for the Development organization, and driving the advancement of our biologics pipeline from discovery through clinical development. Tim is an accomplished program management leader with over 20 years of experience in program management and operations development encompassing enzyme replacement therapies, neuromodulators, and cytokine antagonists. Prior to joining BigHat, Tim led drug development project and program management teams for Alpine Immune Sciences, Inc., Codexis, Inc. and Revance as well as process and operations development and management for Revance and BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc.     We welcome Anisha Keshavan, Crystal H. and Vanessa Le! Anisha joins us as a Senior Data Scientist II. Anisha will be focusing on supercharging data analysis and visualization in our proprietary LIMS, Reccy. Anisha earned her BS in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Math at UCLA and her PhD in Bioengineering at University of California, San Francisco + University of California, Berkeley. She previously served as Lead Data Scientist at Octave and has extensive experience in data visualization, data-focused app development, and computer vision. Crystal joins as Principal Data Scientist. Crystal will develop a data science strategy focused on evaluating and refining the ML-driven antibody design methods deployed on our platform, and aligning the scaling of data generation and processing with improved model performance and therapeutic program advancement. Crystal is a PhD researcher with over a decade of experience spanning human genomics, experimental design, optimization, and statistical modeling. She has led projects at Amazon, Zymergen, and Google [X, the moonshot factory]. Vanessa Le joins BigHat as an Associate Software Engineer II. Vanessa will be working on tools to accelerate how we design and track antibodies through Reccy as well as improve ways in which we capture experimental data. Vanessa is a recent graduate from Northeastern University with a degree in Computer Science. She completed a software engineering co-op at BigHat before coming back to work with the team as a full-time employee. She is passionate about computer science due to its problem-solving nature and loves being able to see the positive impact that her work brings to people's lives.
