#DidYouKnow: The Walled Garden was almost primarily a vegetable garden 🍅 In his original plans, Frederick Law Olmsted suggested this space be a vegetable garden, while George Vanderbilt requested a "garden of ornament." Mr. Vanderbilt's idea clearly won favor, and aren't we glad! Our "ornamental" Walled Garden is a guest favorite, delighting year after year. Our horticulturists carry on Mr. Olmsted's & Mr. Vanderbilt's plans with careful planning and attention to detail. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4bquDpX 📷: Walled Garden, ca. 1950 & present day

#FourthofJuly: These busts of Founding Fathers George Washington and Benjamin Franklin rest in the Tapestry Gallery of Biltmore House. Vanderbilt was particularly interested in George Washington's role in early American history, which was being seen as "history" for the first time during the American Renaissance, as 1776 grew further away in time.
