Despite a delayed return home, my first BioLife Summits event in San Diego was excellent. I even squeezed in a visit to the zoo! The event included engaging presentations, productive meetings, and offered ample networking opportunities. Excited for the upcoming event in Philadelphia this November! The 2024 Southern California BioLife Summit continued on this afternoon with great questions and conversation! Patrick McCarthy, Esq. (CEO) of Validcare gave us a great lead back into the day as he shared innovative ways that Validcare is reworking the CRO model to fit the needs of small biopharma, as working with a CRO should not be a 'one size fits all' approach. This brought us straight into the next exciting discussion on 'Clinical Trial Development', moderated once again by Trinh Le (CEO & Founder) of Collaborative Clinical Research Consulting, Inc., Kim Potter (Director Clinical Operations) of Alume Biosciences, Gregory J Opiteck (Head of Precision & Translational Medicine) of Affini-T Therapeutics, and Jeena M. Thevathasan (Director Clinical Operations) of Mirati Therapeutics (a BMS company) joined Trinh in a thoughtful conversation about what to consider when moving from preclinical to clinical phases of development. This group brings together experiences from both large and small pharma, perfectly positioning them to discuss challenges the could be faced by many different companies and key strategies for navigating this transition. After a quick afternoon break to enjoy the sunshine and snacks, the audience was welcomed back by the 'From Drug Discovery to Market in California' panelists. This discussion was led by Christopher Sauls (Director of Business Development) of Mix Talent, and included insights from Habib Torfi (CEO & Founder) of Invitrx Therapeutics, Michael Howell (CSO & Head of Translational Medicine) of Zura Bio Limited (Nasdaq: ZURA), and Xicheng Sun (Vice President) of Crestone Pharma. They covered how companies unique target can affect what the path to clinic looks like and what implications that could have on future collaborations. We would be remiss to not hit that AI buzzword here and examine the potential advantages and challenges of using AI in the drug discovery process. We couldn't spend the whole day talking about the new and exciting ways we're out here trying to save lives and not dedicate some of that time to exploring the topic of 'Adapting Through the Evolution of Healthcare Relationships'. Moderated by Ronald Blum, Ph.D. (CSO) of Sinai Labs, Daniel de Moraes Branco (Director of Corporate Planning) of Artiva Biotherapeutics, and Paul D. Reay (Past Chairman & CEO) of Biological Dynamics took the stage to discuss the changing healthcare landscape. They examined the opportunities that exist for improving patient care and how companies can fill these gaps for our patients. What an inspiring conversation to wrap up the day! We loved seeing the biotech community in San Diego come together to share experiences and advice, and build up their community while making new connections! Thank you for having us, San Diego! Until next time ☀️ #BiolifeSummits #California #Products #Biotech #Innovation #Ethics #FutureTrends #Investments #AI #DrugDiscovery #Pharma #Therapeutics

The San Diego BioLife Summit is here 🎉 What a morning we've had, full of insightful discussion, fantastic community building, and beautiful sunshine ☀️ The day kicked off with 'Commercializing New Products and Technology in Today's Market' moderated by Aryeh Goldberg (COO) of Bruin Biometrics, LLC. Panleists included Steven Rees, PhD (CEO & Founder) of Defined Bioscience, Walid Soussou (CEO & Founder) of Wearable Sensing, Don Lin (Chief Innovation Officer & Co-founder) of Telesair, Inc, and Jahnavi Lokre (COO) of Diality. They discussed barriers in the commercialization/market adoption process and how to better develop a future approach. Further discussion surrounded navigating times in which you may be faced with a decision to continue a product or to "cut your losses". Next, Trinh Le (CEO & Founder) of Collaborative Clinical Research Consulting, Inc. moderated a stellar group of panelists on the 'Navigating the Life Sciences Investment Landscape' discussion, including: Camilla Gomiero Wade (VP Commercial Strategy & Business Development) of Engrail Therapeutics, Mehmet Sencan (COO) of Integrated Medical Sensors,Jill Jene (CBO) of Amber Ophthalmics, and Ajay Kshatriya (CEO) of Aizen Therapeutics. These seasoned biotech experts discussed all things funding from aligning strategic goals with potential investor interests, to M&A considerations and getting creative when the investment competition gets tough. After a nice break for coffee, the 'Devices and Diagnostics: Where Health and Innovation Meet' panel took the stage with high energy! Our very own Brigid McGivern, SVP of BioLife Summits moderated an innovative group of panelists including Nils Olsson (VP of CMC) of Cerus, Rahaf Al Assil, MD MHSC (CEO & Founder) of PantridgeDTell, Mike Nerenberg (Chief Medical Officer) of Exagen Inc., and Kevin Harris (President) of CureMetrix. Our attendees got to learn about strategies for staying compliant with various regulatory bodies, answering the ethical questions surrounding medical device and diagnostic development, and future trends in this space. Finally, we leapt into the 'Next Generation Life Science Leaders' panel, moderated by Derek C. Dashti, MS, PhD, MBA (CEO & Founder) of D&P Bioinnovations. Our panelists include Noah Davidsohn (CSO & Co-founder) of Rejuvenate Bio, Travis Stiles (CEO & CSO) of Novoron Bioscience, Natalise Kalea Robinson (CEO & Co-founder) of Parallel Health, Kurinji Pandiyan (VP Portfolio & Strategy) of Poseida Therapeutics, Inc., and Tobin Dickerson (CSO & Co-founder) of Mindera Health. They examined how today's leaders can help shape future regulations and policies, what role AI plays in today's decisions, strategies for patient equity and cost, and much more. Our attendees are taking a quick break to reset and network. Keep checking our LinkedIn for more session updates and insights throughout the day! #BiolifeSummits #California #Products #Biotech #Innovation #Ethics #FutureTrends #Investments
