📰 Check out this Los Angeles Business Journal feature of BioscienceLA & our CEO, Stephanie Hsieh. https://lnkd.in/gEmQefxr “L.A. is now a hodge-podge of bioscience mini-clusters,” Hsieh said, referring to the generally small clusters of companies in Pasadena, along the 101 Corridor in western Los Angeles and eastern Ventura counties, Westwood/Santa Monica and the South Bay. “We need a new story line to put the image out there of Los Angeles County as a single bioscience mega cluster. And you do that by tying everything into one destination, including the supporting ecosystem.” Check out the full article to read more.

So much has been going on that I didn’t have a chance to post about #BioScienceLAWeek! Last week, I had the privilege of attending BioscienceLA's event hosted by the Larta Institute. The sessions were packed with insights on the importance of growing the bioscience industry here in LA, focusing on the key questions: #WhyLA? and Why now? Here are some fascinating numbers about Los Angeles: 📊 Economic powerhouse: The Greater LA area has a $1.8 trillion economic output, making it the 15th-16th largest economy in the world. 🌎 Diverse population: Over 18 million people, representing a variety of backgrounds and speaking 100s of languages — an ideal environment for clinical trials and world-class talent. 🎓 Top-tier universities & innovation: LA’s world-class universities fuel innovation, research, and discovery. With fresh ideas, talented individuals, and collaboration with leading hospital systems, LA is a fantastic hub for diversified clinical trials and groundbreaking advancements in healthcare. 🎓 Education pipeline: With 21+ bioscience programs at associate and certificate levels, LA produces over 8,500 bioscience graduates annually, ready to drive the next wave of innovation. 🌐 Global connections: LA is a top international employer for the UK, Japan, France, Germany, and Canada. 🚢 Diverse economy: From the largest manufacturing hub in the US to busy ports, Hollywood, fashion, and biosciences — LA is a place where careers and families can thrive through INNOVATION. 💡 Big dreams, big actions: BioscienceLA is working to unite industry, government, and academia at the local level to ensure LA becomes the next global bioscience hub — not just another Cambridge. In LA, we think big and can deliver the dream! 🚀 Thanks to Stephanie Hsieh for inviting me. Excited for what’s next in LA’s bioscience journey! 🌟 #WhyLA #Innovation #LifeSciences #Bioscience #LosAngeles #Diversity #ClinicalTrials #FutureOfHealth #LAeconomy #BigDreams #ThinkBig

Last week I had the honor of MCing the BioscienceLA Week Day 1: Launching your Bioscience Career: Opportunities in LA County hosted at Los Angeles Mission College. This day long event was filled with informative panels and a college and career fair. Over 200 students joined us to learn about the diverse career pathways in the bioscience industry, from research and development to manufacturing and business operations. The energy was incredible as students connected with industry professionals, explored educational opportunities, and discovered the rapidly growing bioscience ecosystem right here in LA County. A special thanks to our panelists, exhibitors, and partners for making this impactful event possible and helping to inspire the next generation of bioscience leaders!

Why LA as the next national BioScience Mega Hub? BioscienceLA week provided a bigger and bolder vision that will pave the way for the future. The County of Los Angeles receives more NIH funding than any other county in California, and is the second greatest county recipient nationwide. I am excited to see more companies relocate to LA and for local start-ups to grow and thrive, taking advantage of the diverse talent pool offered by the region. I hope with the improvement of economic conditions our developer partners will invest in the region to provide more inventory, addressing low vacancy rates. I'm offering HED's help to the real estate community if we may be of assistance for space planning and site/building evaluation. Let’s get the momentum going!

I attended the BioscienceLA event last week, it definitely gave me inclination to believe that the industry and local government are working together in an attempt to push LA to the top of the list in the future. Organizations like the Larta Institute and Macroscopic as well as individuals like Rohit Shukla Arati Desai Wagabaza Stephanie Hsieh and Lawrence Azerrad are all pushing to make this happen. We at Imagine Biotech hope to contribute to this ambitious but attainable goal. - The City of Angels
