The spotlight today is on Prof. Oyewusi Gureje 🎉 Oyewusi Gureje, NNOM, is a prominent Nigerian psychiatrist affiliated with the University of Ibadan. He serves as the Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health, Neurosciences, and Drug and Alcohol Abuse at the institution. He is known for his contributions to #epidemiology and global #mentalhealth and is a leading advocate for mental health services and policy development in #Africa. Since 2004, he has been recognized among the "top 1% cited researchers in #psychiatry and #psychology" and has established programmes that train mental health specialists, carers, and policymakers. This programme develops mental health capacity across 5 anglophone countries. Gureje has served in leadership roles across different mental health organisations and bodies, including the African Association of Psychiatrists and Allied Professions. We celebrate Dan J. Stein today 👏 Dan Joseph Stein is a psychiatrist who serves as a professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town. He is also the Director of the South African Medical Research Council Unit on Risk & Resilience in Mental Disorders. Dan has a background in biochemistry and psychology. His research focuses on anxiety and other related disorders like #PTSD. He integrates neuroscience research techniques, clinical research, and public health approaches into his work. Dan actively collaborates with researchers worldwide and has mentored early career scientists to leadership positions in psychiatry and neurosciences. His work has been supported by numerous extramural grants, including from The National Institutes of Health. He is a recipient of the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology's Max Hamilton Memorial Award and the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry's Lifetime Achievement Award. #MentalHealth #ScienceCelebrity
