Today is National Biobased Products Day, but really, every day is Biobased Products Day at Biosynthetic Technologies! We are fully committed to holding ourselves accountable to providing products that perform while also being biobased and sustainable. Here’s how we do it: 1️⃣ Our products are derived from the castor seed. Castor crops are sustainable from both an environmental and social analysis. 2️⃣ We made the decision to put the environmental impact and carbon footprint of our manufacturing processes through a Life Cycle Analysis that was done by an unaffiliated third party. 3️⃣ Our fields, crushing, processing, and shipping locations are integrated into a very small geographical region which minimizes the transportation effects on CO2 use. 4️⃣ Our primary production facility uses energy produced from wind farms and our boilers utilize spent castor cake that comes from the process of oil crushing. It’s no surprise that global tariffs have been the story of 2025 so far. With so many businesses game-planning for what the future will look like with new tariffs, now is a good time to address the facts. Here's what to expect: 1️⃣ An additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports is currently in effect. 2️⃣ China has implemented a 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas products as well as a 10% tariff on crude oil imported from the United States, starting today. 3️⃣ A 25% tariff on all goods imported from Canada and Mexico has been delayed until March 6. 4️⃣ The Canadian tariffs include a provision for energy resources. This includes refined products, such as base oils, which will instead be subject to a 10% ad valorem rate of duty. As the potential for a trade war gains more steam, understanding the implications and the options available will be critical to supply chain success. Identifying and engaging a supplier with a true understanding of market dynamics and how to navigate these rough waters can help secure an uninterrupted supply of materials with minimal cost fluctuation.
