On Oct. 29 the #SenateJudiciaryCommittee will hold a hearing in Chicago on how competition can reduce drug costs. With increasing consolidation, vertical integration, and questionable business practices, PBMs are driving drug prices higher and limiting patient access to local pharmacies. BioUtah urges United States Senator Mike Lee to put #PutPatientsFirst and support #PBMReformNOW. #UtahLifeSciences More: https://lnkd.in/gV8tEqpY

BioUtah welcome's new member Glafabra Therapeutics! Glafabra is bringing gene therapy in Fabry disease to the USA. Fabry affects 4 Million people across the globe. People with Fabry suffer kidney disease and often need a kidney transplant. In addition, Fabry patients also suffer from heart disease and higher stroke risk. The disease is due to defects in the GLA gene, which causes the loss of a critical enzyme, a-gal A. The disease is inherited and runs deep in many families. To help, Glafabra is bringing to the US market a gene therapy recently proven to be successful in Canadian clinical trials. The US portion of the trials are expected to start in summer of 2025, where we will bring a first-in-class therapy to Fabry patients and help them achieve a normal quality of life. Glafabra is actively seeing investment and new team members who can help us fulfill this vision. Learn more: www.glafabra.com/

Bipartisan legislation like H.R. 1691 could ensure faster coverage, driving both patient access and medtech innovation.
