We had a wonderful time visiting with Todd and one of his Servi+ robots from Bear Robotics at our office. Our new robotic friend learned the layout of our studio within half an hour and moved freely around the office to assist with tasks we assigned. We even tested its safety features like stepping into its path and it adapted immediately. Thank you to Todd and Kathryn at Bear Robotics! BKV Group Bear Robotics

  • BKV Group attended the momentous groundbreaking ceremony of the new South End Fire Station in Winchester, Virginia, designed by BKV with Pennoni as our Civil partner. The station is the largest project the City of Winchester has commissioned in recent history and the first LEED project the City has undertaken. The design of the new station compliments the City’s historic urban fabric through the use of stone and brick which is common throughout the City. In addition, pieces of the existing station will be reused in the new fire station to honor the history of the department. BKV is excited to partner with the City of Winchester and Lantz Construction Company to bring this project to fruition!

  • For this month's #ProjectPalette, BKV Project Architect, Andrea Vergara, graciously contributed her sketches from several points in her career. From academic exploration to travel studies, these sketches capture moments of inspiration and discovery: 1️⃣ A Year in Rome – A collection of sketches and watercolors documenting a journey through the Eternal City, embracing its timeless beauty and rich architectural heritage. 2️⃣ Fallingwater Visit – A study of Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece in Pennsylvania, appreciating its seamless integration with nature and groundbreaking design. 3️⃣ Undergrad Thesis – Reimagining rural development in El Salvador through architecture, blending traditional urbanism with sustainable design to empower communities. Wonderful work, Andrea, thank you!

  • For this month's #ProjectPalette we're showcasing the material palette for the BKV Group-designed Nevada Fire Station — a project that represents an intersection of desert terrain, mountainous horizons, and the industrial edge of its neighboring warehouse park. Inspired by the grit and resilience of firefighter gear, the palette weaves in textures and finishes that echo strength and durability — charcoal and bronze metals, warm earth-toned concrete and masonry, and a classic tiling nod to both function and form. A key design goal was to seamlessly blur the lines between interior and exterior, bringing the outdoors in and extending the indoor experience outward to create a cohesive sense of place that connects occupants to the landscape. Formed as a recurring grid motif, the palette pays homage to fire station architecture in both materiality and design detailing, creating a cohesive thread that ties the past to the present. The result is a grounded, tactile, and hard-working material narrative that honors place, profession, and purpose.
