About us
We are a design studio centered on racial justice, Black liberation, and abolition. We offer creative services, web design, video production, and other services to commercial, non-profit/not-for-profit, and government organizations. Influenced by artists and activists, Blackbird Revolt was founded because we felt compelled to engage our community through art and design. Our team uses design to educate, challenge, and celebrate. Blackbird Revolt has been in operation since 2017. Collectively, we have over 30 years of design experience. We have designed everything from print material and brands to events and exhibitions.

Watch our latest video to hear from lain, a non-binary youth who came to Avenues with the goals of becoming more expressive, letting go of gender stereotypes, and finding their own housing. While at Avenues, lain worked tirelessly, saved up enough for a down payment, and eventually bought their own home! lain said that while at Avenues, they had "more room to breathe, more room to feel, and more room to think." lain also shared that Avenues' staff supported them on their journey. lain said, "I checked in often because I trusted Rosie. I felt like I could confide in her." With the ongoing cultural assault on LGBTQI+ youth, it's as important now as ever to create safe and affirming spaces for young people to pursue their dreams. At Avenues, we listen to their stories, make sure they are safe and partner with them on their journeys to stable housing and joyful lives. Video by Blackbird Revolt

Across the United States and Tribal Nations, Better Way Foundation partners are strengthening Indigenous communities and child well-being, from early childhood development--that centers on Native culture and heritage--to language revitalization and food sovereignty. And as an organization striving to be a good ally, we're learning a lot. Catch up with our partners' progress and some reflections from our end in our 2023 Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/gjhBMBPQ

Last week at Building on Dreams, nearly 400 supporters and advocates gathered to celebrate 30 years of Avenues partnering with youth to achieve their dreams. We want to give a HUGE shout out to everyone who made this possible! Thank you to our emcee Shayla Reaves and our speakers Jesse Ross (he/him/his) CFRE, alexis kantor, and Katherine Meerse who inspired and informed us with their talks. Known MPLS put on a show-stopping performance again this year! Thank you to our staff who attended and shared about their work partnering with youth! Finally, events like this are not possible without great vendors, so thank you to: CRAVE Catering & Events for the incredible service, and delicious food. Blackbird Revolt for crafting a story that amplifies the voices of youth who have experienced homelessness. Epic Event Rentals and Uptown Balloons for bringing the birthday fun and Cookie Cart for donating sweet treats. We are so grateful to each and every person who attended and all of our generous sponsors! Photo credit: Lauren Cutshall

🎉 We honor the recipients of our Rest Up Awards with this series spotlighting 10 outstanding community leaders. 🎉 The #RestUpAwards celebrate our commitment to the well-being and sustainability of the people leading on the frontlines of community care. As we mark four decades of advancing gender and racial justice with women, girls, and gender-expansive people across the state, we know transformation is only possible when the people leading movements for change are cared for and well. Minnesota leaders of grantee-partner organizations are doing everything in their power to meet the needs of their organizations, their communities, and their families, often setting aside their own needs to take on the more immediate needs of others. Now is the time to give thanks to their deeply essential work for our communities and to resource their cultivation of well-being and healing -- for themselves and their teams. THANK YOU - Kelly Drummer of MIGIZI, Irma Marquez Trapero of LatinoLEAD, Jalilia Abdul-Brown of Change Starts With Community, Hanna Getachew-Kreusser of Face to Face Health & Counseling, Hadija Steen Mills of Healthcare Reparations Cooperative, Kenosha Davenport of Sexual Violence Center, Lulete Mola of @black-collective-foundation, Melissa Nambangi of Minnesota African Women's Association (MAWA), Louise Matson of Division Of Indian Work, and Nicole Matthews of Minnesota Indian Women's Sexual Assault Coalition.
