The American Dream has been repriced. Families are financially overwhelmed. The result? A loss of long-term economic security. Quick highlights: - it takes the typical American family 19 years to save up for the downpayment on a home (home prices are ⬆️ 74% since 2016) - child care alone is now responsible for 1/3 of a median family's income (childcare costs are ⬆️ 52% since 2016) - college education costs have skyrocketed (40M Americans are paying back $1.6T in student debt) - the family Balance Sheet is out of whack with households now sitting on a record $17.8T in debt We can and need to do more to support the stark financial reality of today's American families. cc: Black Jays Ventures, Jay H. Last night, our Co-founder and CEO, Adrianne Nickerson joined Healthcare Reporter, Maya Goldman in conversation at Axios's New Era of Women's Health Event. They discussed how Oula is improving the care landscape for women, before, during, and after pregnancy. 🔘 On listening to women: ”We need to listen to women, we need to trust them. It is so core to what it is we do at Oula. Sometimes it's not rocket science, you just need to spend time with patients to be able to have the real conversations and the dialogue to give really great care" 🔘 On health equity: "There's pervasive racism in our healthcare system and it shows up in care so you can't do one little thing and think that it's going to make a difference. So a piece of it is really, how do we build the workforce and how do we make sure they are examining their own biases in the decisions they're making. The second piece is actually in the care that we deliver and the services that we design." 🔘 On having the right experts at the right time: "The consumer kind of wants the best of both. They want their collaborative care team of their midwife & their OB. and they want to feel like they're delivering at a really great hospital that if something goes wrong they have all of the things the traditional system has in place."
