Today we announced that the final release of DaVinci Resolve 19 is now available. DaVinci Resolve 19 is a major new update which adds new DaVinci Neural Engine AI tools, over 100 feature upgrades such as IntelliTrack AI, Ultra NR noise reduction, ColorSlice six vector grading, film look creator FX and multi source editing on the cut page. For Fusion there are new USD tools and multipoly rotoscoping tools, plus Fairlight has new Fairlight AI audio panning to video, ducker track FX and ambisonic surround sound. Blackmagic Cloud has new features that make it easy to use for large companies with multiple users collaborating on the same project at the same time. There’s also support for DaVinci Resolve Replay so you can create live action replays straight to air during live events and convert those replays into promos, highlight packages and instant social media updates. With this update, editors can work directly with transcribed audio to find speakers and edit timeline clips. Colorists can produce rich film like tones with the ColorSlice six vector palette and produce cinematic images using the new film look creator effect which emulates photometric film processes. In Fairlight, the IntelliTrack AI can be used to track motion and automatically pan audio. VFX artists in Fusion have an expanded set of USD tools plus a new multipoly rotoscoping tool which displays all of your masks in a single list. The cut page has new broadcast replay tools for live multi camera broadcast editing, playout and replay with speed control. There’s also support for live sync with Blackmagic Cloud which uploads media into a DaVinci Resolve bin while the camera is recording so editors and colorists can start working even while the camera is rolling. We would like to thank all of the customers that participated in the beta program, tested the software in a variety of workflows, reported bugs and helped to make DaVinci Resolve 19 even more reliable. Today we released public beta 6 of DaVinci Resolve 19 which adds further improvements to the DaVinci public beta, including support for Blackmagic RAW files shot on the new Blackmagic PYXIS 6K and Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF cameras. DaVinci Resolve 19 Beta 6 adds support for retaining transitions when ripple deleting clips saving multiple keystrokes when editing your footage, as well as updated mouse scroll speeds in the edit and deliver pages to match the cut page. In addition, this update now defaults to using the full data range for rendering DNxHR 444 clips so brightness is accurately represented if working with this footage in other post production systems. For Studio users this update adds support for Dolby Vision metadata when using DeckLink 8K Pro G2. This means you can preview footage live on supported consumer displays that are being color graded in DaVinci Resolve using Dolby Vision. In addition, there are new halation saturation controls for the Resolve FX film look creator, which allow you to fine tune the red orange halo around bright light sources when applying this cinematic look to your footage. For Fusion, there are a number of improvements including faster render speeds for some larger Fusion compositions. In addition, Fusion Fuse examples are now available in the developer documentation folder of the help menu, making it easier to create your own custom Fusion plugins. Today we released Blackmagic Camera for iOS 2.0, which adds support for remotely controlling and monitoring multiple iPhones at the same time. This means your iPhone can be set up as a controller so phones running Blackmagic Camera can be securely connected using a wired or wifi network. This lets you view all your cameras in a multi view, allowing you to monitor and control things like zoom, focus, white balance, frame rate, shutter angle or lens selection on an individual camera or adjust all connected cameras at the same time. It also enables you to synchronize all your cameras so they start and stop recording at the same time. This update also adds support for Apple Silicon based iPad Pros, allowing you to use the iPad as a camera or as a controller. When used as a controller the iPad’s larger display makes it easier to monitor multiple cameras in either a multi view setup with up to nine cameras on screen at a time, or scroll through each individual camera. In addition, this update adds support to capture up to 100fps in HD on iPhone 15 Pro. There is also a new option to select multiple clips in the media tab so you can copy or delete them all at once. This feature speeds up your workflow as it allows you to quickly and easily clear space or copy clips to an external drive. Blackmagic Camera for iOS 2.0 is available now as a free download from https://lnkd.in/g6YQfAmH.

Filmmakers John Elfers and Ryan Harris shot their indie-horror ‘Moon Garden’ on expired 35mm short-tails film stock in order to get the grittiness of old school Art House and Grind House films of the 70’s and 80’s. John and Ryan talk about learning how to scan this challenging project using Blackmagic Cintel Scanner and DaVinci Resolve. The filmmakers share their experiences shooting old out of date film on a bunch of revitalised film cameras. “We are asked frequently, why shoot on film”. “To be honest, both Ryan and I have worked on digital productions, and we never felt the digital formats had the same magic as film. What you see on the monitor, is what you get, which is fine, but without fail, every time we’ve shot on film, we get the footage back and it looks exceptionally better than it did in reality. Film has a way of binding everything together, glossing over imperfections, and elevating the imagery. And personally, I love the grittiness of old school Art House and Grind House films of the 70’s and 80’s. That aesthetic lives in my blood.” “Film was always our target, and we were striving for that gritty, edgy feel you get not only on film, but when you push the emulsion by letting it expire and age. We knew that on an indie film, the challenge would always be money, so the solution to scan the film for editorial was a critical component. While we wanted the vintage quality of film, we also wanted to use modern tools to finish, including editorial and grading.” "We spent over a decade sharpening our teeth working on other people’s films. And meanwhile, I built up an arsenal of vintage lenses, 35mm cameras, grip and electric. I stockpiled one hundred thousand feet of expired film stock in my kitchen, stored in front of an air conditioner.” “What’s truly exceptional about the journey of ‘Moon Garden’ is that our scan on the Cintel became what used to be called a Digital Intermediate, that we then used to print back out to 35mm film for release in theaters. This has been our dream from the start, and the opening weekend of “Moon Garden” in Los Angeles sold out all three 35mm Memorial Day Weekend screenings! Today we announced Blackmagic Camera for Android 1.1, which adds support for HDMI monitoring so you can view a larger image of what you’re filming. This means you get a better view of your scene which helps when checking focus, exposure and composition of your shot, and even watch the recording with multiple monitors so everyone on set can view the footage. This update also adds pull focus controls to the camera so you can change the focus of the lens during a continuous shot. This allows you to gradually pull focus between 3 preset focus points in the foreground or background, giving you the ability to draw your audience’s attention to different elements and change the emphasis of a scene. There’s also support for syncing media directly to a Blackmagic Cloud Organizations account, which allows you to select between syncing media to your personal account or your company’s organizations account when logging on, speeding up your workflow. In addition, you now have the ability to dim the screen while recording, apply noise reduction or sharpening to the recorded image and use 3D LUTS while recording and monitoring.   Blackmagic Camera for Android 1.1 also adds support for more Android phones, including Xiaomi 13 and 14, OnePlus 11 and 12, Samsung Galaxy S21 and S22, Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a.
