AI detection tools are fundamentally flawed because they're always playing catch-up in an asymmetric race. The incentives are heavily skewed towards the development of more sophisticated AI generation capabilities, leaving detection methods perpetually behind - much like we see in cybersecurity, where offensive capabilities often outpace defensive measures. The quest for reliable AI detection is misguided. Instead, we should focus on transparency and attestation. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into all aspects of content creation - from spell-checking to formatting and personalized delivery - the distinction between "AI-generated" and "human-written" content becomes meaningless. The way forward involves transparent disclosure of AI usage, clear provenance of training data and knowledge bases, and human attestation of final outputs. This approach aligns incentives towards truthful AI and maintains human accountability. At Blackwire Labs, we're exploring blockchain-based attestation systems to cryptographically verify content origins while protecting sensitive data. This allows for public verification without compromising privacy, crucial for fields like cybersecurity where data sensitivity is paramount.
