Congratulations to Leslie Orellana, who served as the dedication speaker at the grand opening of the newest academic building at Virginia Tech Myers-Lawson School of Construction in early October! We are proud of your achievements as a student so far and are confident that you will continue to accomplish great things in the future!
Last week, we celebrated the ribbon cutting of Hitt Hall, a 100,000-square-foot multipurpose building at Virginia Tech Myers-Lawson School of Construction, officially named in honor of our Chairman Emeritus Russell Hitt. This cutting-edge facility will elevate the educational experience and continue Russell’s legacy of innovation in construction. 🏢 What to Expect: • Expanded spaces for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction, fostering innovation and discovery. • A state-of-the-art 600-seat dining facility with nine distinct venues to enhance campus dining services. • Flexible classrooms, open collaboration zones, and a two-story Innovation Lab for large-scale student projects. • Energy-efficient systems, water conservation features, and environmentally responsible building materials, setting a new standard in sustainable design. The community spirit of Virginia Tech is invigorating, and will continue to become bigger and better, pushing boundaries in research and development to disrupt the industry and change how we build. HITT Co-Chairman Brett Hitt hopes to continue helping improve the learning experience for all students and announced the launch of the Russell Hitt Memorial Scholarship Fund, ensuring all students have equal access to the terrific education at Virginia Tech. Special thanks to W. M. Jordan Company and Cooper Carry for their incredible work on this project. This innovative facility creates a beautiful new space for future leaders in construction! We’re excited to see the impact it will have. Incoming Project Engineer @ HITT | Virginia Tech Real Estate Student | ULI & IREM Student Member | Real Estate Mentor & Philanthropist
This past Saturday, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Winterfield Crossing in Richmond with Morgan Blackwood Patel and Willis Blackwood. It was an amazing experience to represent Blackwood Department of Real Estate with Renzo Sanio and Daniel Bennett as we prepare for the Colvin Case Study competition, a national real estate challenge that focuses on analyzing innovative, real-world development projects. Thank you to Morgan, the Blackwood Team, and Dustin Read for your mentorship and support. Excited for what’s ahead as we prepare for Colvin. Go Hokies!
Spent Saturday am hosting 3 of our most impressive real estate students who had left Blacksburg at 5am (who did that on a Saturday in college?!?) to drive to Richmond and visit with us at Winterfield Crossing in anticipation of their entry to the Colvin Case Study. Not only are these students self motivated (this is for their own personal development , not for class credit), they are thoughtful, inquisitive and wonderful people to be around. We wish them the BEST!! And if you are hiring, snag them now! Their knowledge of the real estate market and development is so impressive. Very proud to have them represent the Blackwood Department of Real Estate at Virginia Tech and the Virginia Tech - Pamplin College of Business . Sophia Gottlieb , Renzo Sanio , Daniel Bennett Thank you to Dustin Read for your stewardship of this team. It shows amazing commitment to our program to have you take a day in your weekend to be present with them. #hokies #utprosim Willis Blackwood
