The Reven Pack, the 2024 WoW® Charity Pet, is inspired by the incredible story of Mats Steen, which is captured in The Remarkable Life of Ibelin documentary – now live on Netflix. Mats, a Norwegian WoW player known in game as Ibelin, suffered from Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare neuromuscular disease. In the wake of his death, his family discovered what they thought was a life lived in total isolation, was in fact filled with joy, laughter, friendship, and love through Mats’ adventures in WoW. Now through January 7th, 2025, The Reven Pack is available in both modern WoW and WoW Classic to support CureDuchenne, the global nonprofit leader in research, patient care, and innovation for improving and extending the lives of those with this disease. Meet Eric Matos, World of Warcraft Social Media Content Creator #HispanicHeritageMonth ⚔️ “My journey to Blizzard started with my childhood love of gaming. I wanted to provide that experience to others. But getting into college was too expensive, And making a game was beyond my expertise. Then World of Warcraft changed all that. I made so many friends through the community, and even met my wife Jen because of it! We started streaming WoW and making content around the game. A member of our stream community tagged me in a post about a content creator role on the WoW social media team and I thought, ‘I can do this!’ So I took a chance and applied. Here we are, two years later, and I've loved every second! Something that’s important to remember is that our posts aren't from just one ‘social media intern’ as our followers sometimes think. We’re a team of dedicated, skilled, and passionate WoW players. And together, with our ideas and collaboration we reach a lot of people with news, updates, and (most importantly) memes that we're really proud of. About my background, my father is from Cuba, and I grew up in Alabama. Whenever we visited my extended family in Florida, it was a full immersion in my heritage. My culture is full of amazing music, food, history, and people. I love what Cuban culture contributes to the tapestry of humanity. I'm proud to be able to say, ‘Soy Cubano.’ To those looking to find their way into the industry, I say take your chance! If you see a job you think you can do, apply, even if you don't have the exact professional experience or education requested. My resume was my Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitch stream, fueled by my passion for World of Warcraft. I am lucky that someone took a chance on me, and I've worked every day since then to make sure that chance pays off. So yeah, take the chance.”
