In light of the recent cyberattack on OneBlood, the supplier of 8% of our nation's blood, platelets, and plasma, we face an urgent need for donations. Disruptions from such incidents can severely impact patient care, making it critical to address current shortages, particularly highly perishable platelet supplies. Blood Centers of America calls on all donors, especially those able to give platelets, to schedule appointments and ensure a stable blood supply during these historic shortfalls. Together, we can overcome these challenges and continue saving lives. Did you know BCA members have dozens of Medical Directors on staff that lend their expertise to serve the blood center community as well as patients? A great example of this is Daniela Hermelin, MD CABP the Chief Medical Officer of ImpactLife. Our member center, San Diego Blood Bank, successfully collected over 3,000 pints of blood at the 48th Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive during the Comic-Con International, surpassing their goal. These donations will go on to impact over 9,000 lives during the summer season, which is historically the most challenging time to collect blood.
