$736 million in grants funding American battery recycling🔋♻️: DOE just announced their latest round of grants totaling over $3 billion in investments for 25 selected projects across 14 states: -American Battery Technology Company •$150,000,000, South Carolina •1,200 construction jobs and 300 operations jobs •Construct a new commercial scale lithium-ion battery recycling facility to process approximately 100,000 tons of battery materials per year. Partnerships include BASF, Siemens, Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research, Argonne National Laboratory, and South Carolina Electric Transportation Network. -Ascend Elements •$125,000,000, Kentucky •Together with their subrecipients, Koura & Orbia the group aims to construct first-of-its-kind recycled graphite production facilities that convert graphite residue from an existing lithium-ion battery recycling and cathode material production operation into battery grade graphite with purity greater than 99.95%, and a lower carbon footprint than traditionally produced graphite. -Blue Whale Materials LLC •$55,232,669, Bartlesville, Oklahoma •150 full-time jobs and 180 construction jobs •The objective of the Project is to incrementally expand the baseline LiB processing capacity in Bartlesville by a factor of 3.5X (from 14,000 to 50,000 tonnes per year). Facility is within the reservation lands of the Cherokee Nation and partnering with the Delaware Tribe. BWM has also signed memorandum of understanding with Blue Star Recyclers and James Emmett and Company. -Cirba Solutions •$200,000,000, Columbia, SC •310 full-time jobs and 653 construction jobs •The facility will recycle lithium-ion batteries obtained from EVs, energy storage systems, end-of-life consumer materials, and manufacturing scrap from cell producers and OEMs. When fully operational, the facility will be capable of processing over 60,000 tons of batteries annually. Cirba Solutions will also be working with readysc - SC Technical College System and Midlands Technical College to provide training for its employees. -Clarios •$150,000,000, Florence, SC •375 operational jobs and 800-1,200 construction jobs •The project retrofits an existing Clarios facility to collocate scrap-to-CAM production with an annual output rate of 20,000 tonnes per year, supporting the battery requirements of approximately 200,000 EVs annually. Clarios is partnering with SK On, Cosmo Chemical Co Ltd, and Cosmo AM & T Co. -Li Industries •$55,243,798, Kettering, OH •120 permanent jobs and 45 construction jobs •Li Industries, Inc. (LII) proposes retooling of a former manufacturing facility to establish a 10,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode active material (CAM) direct recycling and production plant. General Motors (GM) is supporting LII on the development of technology to enable the direct recycling process, and LII is partnering with others to build and operate the facility.

A vital facet of this investment is the allocation of approximately $3 million toward workforce development and community outreach. This funding will be utilized to forge and expand partnerships with pivotal organizations, including the Delaware Tribe of Indians, Blue Star Recyclers, Tri-County Tech, and James Emmett and Company. These collaborations are expected to enrich the local talent pool, promote inclusive economic progress, and strengthen community ties. In essence, the DOE's grant to Blue Whale Materials is more than just a financial boost; it is a catalyst for sustainable economic development, community engagement, and job creation
