Our diversity and inclusion (D&I) teams in Barstow, California; Alliance and Bridgeport, Nebraska; Edgemont, South Dakota; and Pueblo, Colorado are making a significant impact on local schools by providing essential school supplies. 🎒 ✏️ The Barstow team, or Railroad Workers and Teachers United, set up 10 collection boxes around the yard, with supplies delivered to Skyline North Elementary School. “Many teachers purchase supplies out of their own pockets to make sure their classrooms are fully equipped,” said Switchman Ray Silva. The teams from Colorado, Nebraska and South Dakota also set up donation boxes in their workplaces. “Coming from a small town, I have seen first-hand the good that can be done when we look out for one another,” said Shawn Rourke, a BNSF conductor in Pueblo, Colorado. #WorldTeacherDay #teachers #communityinvolvement

It was a record month for BNSF's Southern California On-Dock (SCOD) intermodal facilities in Los Angeles and Long Beach! 🚂 ✔️ We exceeded 140,000 container lifts at these facilities in September, for the first time ever ✔️We transferred 141,735 containers from ship to train that month. That's an average of 4,725 lifts per day! ✔️On Sept. 15, these facilities surpassed 1,090,592 lifts -- the total number of lifts for ALL of 2023 Congratulations to our teams at our SCOD facilities. Today, BNSF announced the ratification of a 5-year agreement with The International Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation (SMART) Railroad, Mechanical and Engineering Department (MD) to increase wages, accelerate paid vacation accrual and add other contractual improvements. BNSF announced today members of The American Train Dispatchers Association (ATDA) voted to ratify a new agreement with the Class I railroad to increase wages, accelerate paid vacation accrual and add other contractual improvements. The agreement provides a 3.5-percent average wage increase per year over the next five years, offers railroaders more vacation earlier in their career and makes meaningful enhancements to an already robust suite of health care benefits. The news comes a month ahead of the opening of the next collective bargaining round and follows the ratification of labor agreements with two other labor unions, The Transportation and Communications Union (TCU) and Brotherhood Railway Carmen, (BRC) in late September.
