BNSF announced today it has reached a tentative labor agreement with The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Also, members of The National Conference of Firemen and Oilers (NCFO) have voted to ratify their collective bargaining agreement with BNSF. The agreement with IBEW marks the ninth tentative agreement announced by BNSF in the last two months, with 53 percent of the railroad’s union workforce now covered under tentative agreements. The agreements provide covered railroaders a 3.5-percent average wage increase per year over the next five years, more vacation earlier in their career, and enhancements to health care benefits. BNSF is one step closer to double-tracking the entire Southern Transcon, our 2,200-mile route connecting LA to Chicago. As of this week, we now have 12 miles of new second main track near Augusta, Kansas, allowing us to run more traffic in both directions simultaneously, just like the highway. Our investments in growing our rail network mean additional capacity to serve our intermodal customers with multiple priority trains every day from West Coast ports to inland markets.
