Board Insights from the Nasdaq 2024 Global Net Zero Pulse Report , Thanks to Steve Vargas, Michèle Holtkamp and Adena Friedman The Nasdaq 2024 Global Net Zero Pulse Report provides valuable insights into the evolving landscape of corporate carbon credit purchasing and the voluntary carbon market (VCM). Here are some key takeaways: Diverse Respondent Base: The survey included 120 respondents, comprising 35% small-cap and micro-cap companies, 20% large-cap companies, and 4% megacap companies, indicating a wide range of company sizes and perspectives. Corporate Interest in Carbon Removal Projects: Over half of the respondents plan to invest in carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credit solutions, highlighting a strong demand for carbon removal projects. Supply and Demand Dynamics: While there is significant interest in CDR, the supply of carbon credits remains limited, posing a challenge for companies looking to meet their net-zero goals. Educational Needs: Corporate carbon credit buyers require additional education on carbon credits before making purchasing decisions. This indicates a need for more information and resources to help companies navigate the carbon credit market. Regulatory Uncertainty: Respondents expressed uncertainty about the regulatory landscape, which has delayed carbon credit procurement decisions. Pressure from Regulations: 72% of survey respondents feel pressure from regulatory frameworks like the SEC's climate disclosure rules, California AB-1305, and the EU CRCF, affecting their carbon credit strategies. Future Plans: 57% of respondents indicated that they expect to utilize durable carbon removal credits to reach their netzero goals, showcasing the growing importance of these credits. ESG Expertise: BoardroomEducation.com is the only global board organization providing ESG-accredited boards to serve on companies seeking ESG expertise in the boardroom. Yusuf Azizullah's Board ESG Insight: Yusuf Azizullah, CEO of Global Board Advisors Corp (GBAC), believes that carbon credits are a good short-term fix. However, for long-term success, AI centers of excellence need to be created across corporate functions like HR, Finance, Procurement, and Supply Chains to cut down carbon emissions. This involves removing and getting out of products, services, and geo-locations that do not meet ESG sustainability goals of net-zero. Carbon credits are a good solution, but AI provides more strategic planning, and GBAC can help guide companies in this direction. The report underscores the importance of education and regulatory clarity in advancing corporate carbon credit purchasing strategies. As the demand for carbon removal projects grows, addressing these challenges will be crucial for achieving global net-zero goals. #NetZero #CarbonCredits #Sustainability #ESG #CorporateStrategy #boardofdirectors #CEO #BoardGovernance #BoardLeadership #BoardMembers #CorporateGovernance #BoardMeetings #BoardStrategy 🌍📈 #ClimateAction #ESGInvesting

Layoffs in a Political Year: A Board's Guide Dear Valued Board Members & my LinkedIn network , At Boardroom Education, we recognize the critical role boards play in guiding a company's success, especially during an election year. This includes making tough decisions like layoffs, which can significantly impact both the organization and its employees. **Understanding the Layoff Landscape** The global economic landscape has shifted, leading to a surge in layoffs across various industries. Over 3,553 companies, including tech giants like Apple and IBM, have announced workforce reductions since January 2024. Understanding this context is crucial when navigating potential layoffs within your organization. **Shareholders vs. Stakeholders in an Election Year** The upcoming election cycle brings heightened scrutiny towards employee rights and corporate practices. Boards need to re-evaluate policies on severances, retirement benefits, and HR best practices. Candidates prioritizing worker rights and fair treatment during layoffs might influence future regulations. **Balancing Business Needs with Employee Wellbeing** When contemplating layoffs, responsible boards consider: - **Financial Necessity**: Are layoffs essential for long-term stability, or can alternative cost-saving measures be explored? - **Legal Compliance**: Adherence to local, state, and federal employment laws is paramount. - **Ethical Considerations**: Transparency, fairness in selection criteria, and providing employee support are crucial for ethical conduct. **Building a Stronger Future** Responsible layoffs go beyond immediate cost reduction. Boards must consider: - **Impact on Remaining Employees**: Maintaining morale, productivity, and workload distribution is critical. - **Strategic Alignment**: Layoffs should align with long-term business goals and not undermine future growth. - **Retaining Critical Talent**: Prioritize skills necessary for future success. **Lessons Learned: Case Studies** **Honeywell (2009): A Model of Success** - **Strategic Planning**: Focused on retaining critical talent for future growth. - **Communication**: Transparent communication with employees. - **Employee Support**: Generous severance packages and outplacement services. **Better.com (2021): A Missed Opportunity** - **Poor Communication**: CEO's call on Zoom, laying off employees via zoom call eroded trust and morale. - **Lack of Transparency**: Unclear reasons for layoffs led to confusion. - **Negative Publicity**: Insensitive approach damaged the company's reputation. **GBAC - Global Board Advisors Corp , Boardroomeducation.com Education: Your Partner in Making Informed Decisions** Boardroom Education empowers boards with the knowledge and resources necessary for strategic decision-making, especially in volatile election years. We offer in-depth resources and guidance on navigating layoffs effectively and ethically.

**AI and Liability: A Wake-Up Call for Boards** The recent *Mobley v. Workday* case is a landmark legal battle with significant implications for businesses. Derek Mobley, an African American man over 40 with disabilities, sued Workday, a leading HR software provider, alleging that Workday's AI-powered hiring tools discriminated against him based on race, age, and disability. In a pivotal ruling, the court found that AI service providers can be held directly liable for discriminatory outcomes if their software is found to be biased. This is a major shift in legal precedent, as it establishes that AI vendors are no longer shielded from responsibility for the actions of their technology. **Think of it this way:** If a car manufacturer sells a defective vehicle that causes an accident, they can be liable. Similarly, if an AI service provider sells biased software that leads to discrimination, they can face legal consequences. **Boards must take proactive steps:** * **Regular AI Audits:** Conduct frequent checks to ensure AI tools are fair and unbiased. * **Risk Assessments:** Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. * **Governance Policies:** Implement clear guidelines for AI use and oversight. **Need help?** We can assist your board in: reach Chad Clark Chad@globalboardadvisors.com * Developing AI governance frameworks * Conducting AI audits * Assessing AI risks * Implementing ethical AI practices Let's ensure your organization is prepared for the AI-driven future. #AI #Governance #RiskManagement #BoardOfDirectors #AIethics #AIlaw #MobleyvWorkday #AIliability #AIaudit #AIgovernance #AIrisk #AIpolicy

I've invested in Recursion $RXRX, believing in its long-term future growth potential I'm truly inspired after witnessing the recent conversation between Jensen Huang CEO of NVIDIA and Chris Gibson CEO , Co-founder of Recursion. Their partnership, which includes a $50 million investment from NVIDIA in Recursion, and their collaboration in building Biohack 2, now the fastest #supercomputer in #biopharma, is nothing short of revolutionary. What inspired me was Chris Gibson seeking advice on scaling, and Jensen sharing a powerful insight: "If we don't do our jobs, we'll be 30 days from going out of business." This mindset is truly inspiring for CEOs who are scaling their companies. It emphasizes the importance of constant vigilance, #innovation, and execution, even for established companies like NVIDIA. Looking at the long-term prospects, two potential scenarios stand out: 1) Big Pharma Buyout: There's a possibility that a major pharmaceutical company could acquire Recursion, potentially seeing value in their innovative approach to drug discovery and development. OR 2) NVIDIA Expansion: Alternatively, NVIDIA might increase its investment in Recursion, potentially bringing the company into its subsidiary family. This could further strengthen the synergy between NVIDIA's computing power and Recursion's biopharma expertise. Congratulations to the Entire #board of Recursion on this partnership. Newly elected Chairman of the board Robert Hershberg , Zachary Bogue, Blake Borgeson (Co-founder), Terry-Ann Burrell , Zavain Dar, Najat Khan, PhD, Dean Y. Li, MD, PhD (Co-founder). It's a significant milestone that could shape the future of both companies and the biopharma industry as a whole. As an investor, I'm excited about the potential growth and innovations that may come from this collaboration. #healthcare #drugdiscovery #futureofwork #RXRX #Recursion #boardofdirectors #founders #entrepreneur #investor #drugdevelopment #drugdiscoveries #clinicaltrials #health $NVDA #NVDA https://lnkd.in/eWrYsnjg
