Happy Alaska Day! 🎉 As we celebrate Alaska’s incredible wildlife, we also highlight the work of BOEM Alaska staff, who recently volunteered for the annual #BelugasCount event. This community-driven effort raises awareness and supports the conservation of Cook Inlet’s endangered beluga whales. Our staff helped record sightings and engage visitors in learning about these iconic creatures. Together, we’re working to protect Alaska’s natural heritage. 🐋 https://ow.ly/Eap550TNTQr

🌊🔬 Environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis is revolutionizing how we monitor marine biodiversity! This non-invasive and cost-effective method allows scientists to identify species from water samples by analyzing their genetic material. 🌍🛰️By combining eDNA analysis with technologies like passive acoustics, satellite data, and aerial observations, researchers are gaining a holistic view of marine ecosystems. This integrated approach helps us understand the impacts of human activities on ocean health. 💼🔍 BOEM plans to use eDNA to help inform critical decision-making for offshore wind development, monitoring marine protected areas, and responding to oil spills. Read more about how eDNA will help BOEM’s decision making here: https://ow.ly/wJsZ50TNUju #OffshoreWind #UnleashingTheScience #eDNA #BOEM
