At Boku we love good competition and to showcase our creativity (with bonus points for any activity that involves food!). So, we’ve started our own Boku Bake Off challenge, just like the beloved Great British Bake Off, the ultimate battle for passionate amateur baking fans! This competition leaves no one indifferent: cakes, pies, cookies… the only rule is flavor! The panel of judges comprised fellow Bokuers who sampled each creation with the same critical palate as at the Great British Bake Off show. Fun fact: The Boku Bake Off tradition originally started couple of years ago in our London HQ (no doubt as to why). But this year all Boku employees from our various office locations in Estonia, the U.S., India, Germany got a chance to participate! Now we begin the quest for our next Boku Bake Off champion! In the meantime, check out the culinary masterpieces that were created during the first rounds 👀

It can start as a ‘one-off’ refund request, a momentary lapse in honesty, to save money on goods or services already used. If successful the first time, the temptation to repeat this behaviour can be strong. Though this may not sound like most people’s idea of a ‘fraudster’, it is not a fully legitimate or honest interaction – and most businesses consider this fraud. Laura Carruthers, Fraud Prevention Director at Boku, sheds light on the growing problem of friendly fraud, its impacts, and effective strategies to protect businesses. #fraud #fraudprevention #payments

Summer has passed and all the students are back at their desks at university. For Boku, it means that we can look back at the amazing experiences our interns had during this time. Here's a glimpse of Erik Lippert's experience.
An internship across the globe. What is it like to work in Boku?

🚩 Free trials and promotional offers can be a great way to acquire new loyal customers, but they can also attract fraud and abuse where the service or content is easily resold. Fraud prevention should be considered over the full customer lifecycle, including signup, even where there is no charge. 🏆 Considering potential risks and optimizing the signup or offer redemption process to account for these can help merchants extract the maximum value from their customer acquisition strategies, including the addition of new payment methods. Working together with PSPs and issuers can empower merchants to tackle any harmful end-user activity, and uncover new optimization opportunities to boost revenue. ➡️ Follow us for more insights on local payment methods, risk and fraud. #fraudprevention #riskandfraud #payments

Last Thursday was my final day at Boku’s office in Mumbai 🇮🇳 and my final day at Boku overall 😔. I have learned so much at my time at Boku - in both the more corporate side of things with sprint meetings, tickets or reviews and the technical side with Kubernetes, Maven, Spring boot, Selenium and writing clean and maintainable code. Thank you to everyone I met at Boku during my internship, you have made me feel welcome, taught me a lot and even spent time with me outside of Boku (special thanks to Felix for the cinema trip, Tõnn Sikk for some lovely BBQ and Nihaal Wagadia for some late night Cricket) Now to talk about Mumbai specifically, thank you a lot to Nihaal Wagadia, Nikhil, Nirali Merchant, Sharon Moniz, Bhargav Paleja, Trishla Mehta, Arjun Kaul, Umesh Randive, Rajesh Gupta and Sanjith (long list) for not only help with my work but also so many things that went far beyond work, evening trips, late night Cricket, sharing lunch with me or inviting me to go out for lunch, teaching me a lot about India and giving me some memories I won’t forget anytime soon 🧡 The tech I was working on was really interesting, it’s one of those things you don’t really think about how they work. I was working on “bundling” which allows companies to partner with a carrier or bank so that when you buy a new SIM or credit card, you can redeem X free months of a subscription, with Boku facilitating the communication between carrier/bank and the company offering the subscription. Specifically I was building a centralised script to update ~30 of these repositories for different carriers with a version bump in a dependency and some changes in the core logic of the code to make it easier to implement these logic change in all repositories with minimal manual work. 🚀 Overall I had a great time in Mumbai, I got to work on something cool that would actually be used in one of Boku’s product and I even got to meet some people I had worked with remotely in London like Umesh, not to mention all the fun after work with coworkers. On the weekends I embraced my inner tourist and experienced as much of India as possible (even with a weekend trip to Delhi and the Taj Mahal). Unfortunately I think Boku set insanely high standards with a great work environment and company culture that will be hard to match by whatever internship/job comes next 🙃 If I met you at my time at Boku and would like to connect, please do! I met so many people that I can’t remember everyone’s name but I would love to stay in contact. ✉️ Now it’s time for me to return to the University of Sheffield to start my second year of studies while being fortunate to have been elected president of CompSoc where I have many cool things planned as well! 🎉
